Okay, a few days in with CMX1 and I loved the sounds of it driving U12. It makes my U12 sounds more balanced and really brings out the magical vocal on it. This can fight a quite high-end DAP and hold it's own.

Agree that the Granbeat beats the LGV20, more depth and clarity with my iSine20. Dilemma on which one to keep..phone with good wide angle camera or a phone with awesome hi-res audio.

Yes you need a 2.5mm trrs connection to use balanced mode. If you're referring to using a 2.5mm trrs to 3.5mm trs connector that has the potential to damage your player as you are shorting the left and right negative connectors together.
