Official X5 2nd gen beta firmware download and discussion thread--version 1.27: library search function, replaygain, filter options

I'm a bit concerned about the DAC capabilities.
What concerns me is I can't use it as a DAC with my PC without the device recharging at the same time.
Won't this wear out the battery faster?

If I understand correctly, modern batteries stop charging after they are full of charge, so leaving the Fiio X5II connected to a power source should not affect its battery life.

I'm not concerned about over charging, HD.
I was under the assumption that one should only recharge when almost drained to get the most cycles.
I just googled it and I was wrong.

Some say keeping a player between 40-80% charge would be best.

Cheers.

Hi Koukol,
I only learned recently that batteries should discharge infrequently.
Best,
Heath

Pretty good to know how that filter works.

I actually was hoping that gentle slope would start cutting off after 20khz, instead of before.

If someone has the needed devices, should measure the differences, and let us know how it looks on paper (FR mainly)

It can't do that with the "gentle" slope and still get to the required attenuation at 22K (for 44K sampling frequency). The idea of the steep or "brick wall" filter is that is can start after 20K and till remove the spurious signals at the 1/2 sampling frequency point to the required level.

BTW I just installed 1.27. I tried manually updating the media library. It stopped at 12,866 songs out of around 14,000. I tried a manual reset of the database and it is rescanning now. No problems with the scan completing using 1.20 with the same cards in it. We will see.

There is a bug that when you press the back button to go back to the album folder page while your in the current playing song it mess up the selections. Sometimes there's only 2-7 albums that will show up.

My player has switched to full volume all on its own when I changed from the EQ setting of "off" to the next one... "rock"
Normally switching to an EQ setting reduces the volume not increase it to ear splitting, HP ruining levels
It has happened three times so far.
Quickly switching the EQ back to "off" and then back to "rock" returns it to the normal levels I set.

This bug definitely needs to be fixed.

Which firmware are you running?

Do you definitely have headphones in the headphone-out slot rather than the line-out?  Have to ask, as I've inadvertently plugged the wrong jack a few times as well.

The latest Beta.
And yes it's with the HP out.
I should add that I loaded the Custom theme posted here that simplifies the player taking away stuff like languages I don't need and the beginning animation.

Just tried mine - and I can't exhibit the same behaviour.  Same beta.  Maybe worthwhile reflashing the latest beta firmware "just in case"?

Huh.  I actually just fiddled with the EQ earlier today, and I didn't have that happen.  Granted, I didn't change it from "off" to something else, I just switched from "Rock" to "Dance."  And I also have custom firmware (Relic's are just too amazing not to use).

I do have to say though, now that I have my second 200 GB card installed, and both over half full with 22,000 or so songs, the player is still flying like an ace on this beta.  It's light years ahead of what it was when I first bought it and filled up my first card.  I'm really impressed.  I think the only beef I really have now is that it apparently doesn't have PNG support, which annoys me as I have to then change the file formats of some of my cover art.

Are the cards formatted FAT32 or ExFAT?

Ironic about the .png images since the FiiO X5II firmware uses .png graphics for the display.

I think that .png images are avoided when keeping cover art because they occupy much much more than their jpeg or jpg counterparts. I all picture files that I can in PNG because jpg and jpeg are both lossy.

OK

I posted this on the regular thread and thought I'd post it here too in case it might be a latest firmware problem.

Sometimes when I turn the player on, find a song, play it and set the volume...the volume will drop once I go to the EQ settings and make ANY change.
It could be just one notch of the 2K range or even switching from one setting to another.
Even switching to "off" has still dropped the volume by about 20% to what it was before I entered the EQ settings.
The volume is so unpredictable I've also experienced a huge unexpected spike in the volume when using the EQ settings as I mentioned before.
Again, doing a simple switch to the next setting then going back returns it to the normal volume level I set.
What's REALLY annoying is the volume number listed above stays the same during all of this.

???

I'm running the latest beta version.
I think I'll rollback the firmware and see what happens.
