Official X5 2nd gen beta firmware download and discussion thread--version 1.27: library search function, replaygain, filter options

Hi there, been using this firmware version since it came out. I'm very pleased with the new functions and the much snappier performance.
However I'm experiencing much more battery drain, the player is running hotter than before. I wonder if any other can confirm it?

Hi, Encinos.

You can try to test the battery life of the X5II if you are worried about it. Here is the related test steps: click here

In theory, the new firmware will not influence the battery life, when other test conditions are similar.

It does run warmer to my touch, but that's also probably because I tend to have it in my pocket, or in the fabric case I bought to put it in.  I don't notice any more battery drain than before.

Thanks everyone :)
I've always put it in my pocket, it does go warm a bit. But since 1.27b, sometimes I just have to take it out since it's going to an unbearable temperature, but it could be the weather, summer's coming ;)
And I can't and actually don't quite want to test the battery since it's quite time consuming and I have to flash the firmwares back and forth to compare.
So I guess I'll just stick with it for now or maybe take it to Fiio to check if there's a hardware problem.

I bought the X5ii two weeks back. So far, it's been a great player to listen to and use. My colleagues call it "The iPod on steriods", and it for sure is one. Even the AKG K501 plays decently on it in high gain mode.

Flashed it to 1.27b just today, hoping some minor issues I encountered would be fixed. However, some suggestions for improvements in later firmware versions still remain that I'd like to share here:
  1. While uploading my music collection (mostly flac 44 kHz 16 bit and some high res files) I noticed the following with 1.2 and 1.27beta also: when there is an album consisting of 2 disks that uses the disk number and restarts the track numbering at 1 for the second disk, the X5 will show in category mode first all first tracks, then the second tracks etc. Is it possible to fix this such that it lists first all tracks from disk 1 and then from disk 2?
  2. I noticed that in category mode, the track filenames are listed instead of the track title. Can the titles be used in category mode?

Some UI items if you would be really picky:
  1. in the "About X5" option, the SD card available capacity text scrolls back and forth for no reason. Could be stationary in my view.
  2. The playback quality is displayed in the play now menu in red. This makes it hard to read most of the time. I'd propose to put in below the album title in white text and leave it there, just like the other information or use the same dark transparent background with white or gray text.
  3. In the play settings menu, the digital filter option name doesn't start with a uppercase, like the rest of the options.

That would make this very nice player even better!

Four wishes:

As it is now, a song needs to be played ~15 seconds to enable the «rewind» button to get to the beginning of that song – instead of the previous song. I wish it was a much shorter play time, let's say 2 seconds. 15 seconds is just a bit off the mark.

After the player has been switched on, it begins to play. I wish it would start paused. And while we're at it: I also wish a paused song would stay paused after skipping to its beginning instead of starting to play.

It would be nice if the deep sleep mode would also work during charging or while a charger is attached.

And finally, an old and often repeated wish: Please create a shortcut to the equalizer!

I can't stress enough my desire for an EQ short-cut.
It would be so cool to give us the option to let us switch the upper left button for this.

I've been playing with 1.27 for a few weeks now, and can happily say that it is significantly less laggy than the most recent 'stable' release when accessing the library. Having said that, it's still more laggy than a device like this should be, especially when trying to get back up the menu hierarchy while playing something. The iPod classic has set the bar quite high, but the more I think about it the more I think it can't be THAT difficult to implement a very responsive UI.

However, my biggest gripe with all the firmware's so far is the difficulty in browsing the library. I have a fairly large collection (just under ~21000 songs), but the lack of any sort of fast-scroll feature on the scroll wheel means it literally takes me 10 minutes to scroll to the middle of my library. What I'd love to see is either a fast scroll option, an alphabet-selection option (where I can select the letter the artist/song begins with from the alphabet, or a search function.

Thanks to the developers - this firmware is a big improvement, so please keep up the good work

I like the autoplay on start :)

Just an option to turn it off would be nice.  I like to start my devices, settle down, get comfortable, and then start the music.  An option to start the music on power-up or keep it paused would satisfy everyone's preference.
Just my two pennies...

putting firmwares on dropbox ... how cheap is that really, you can't afford a dedicated server that's really unprofessional ...

It's often actually quicker than using a dedicated server in China.  What's your problem with it?  Plenty of businesses use dropbox.  it's just another tool.

Actually, Dropbox seems a bit better than having an own server or renting one, as far as files go.

They have better rates, and a dedicated server with all tools included, can easily go over 5K $. Even 10K $, considering that Fiio has probably over 1000 visitors per day.

I am happy with dropbox links. I kind of wish they would publish news about a Fiio X5 3rd gen.
