4,000 hours in almost 4 years, still enjoy it very much even though get lesser than with it as life is back to normal and more travelling. Roughly one-third of time have been running in battery mode, the battery is still in best performance, 7+ hours (from full -> 20%) with a mixture of red book flac, hi-res flac and DSD.
Mine has for 1Y 4 months of use like 2300 hours . My NW-WM1A has the least usage now, currently in hamburg visiting friends, took my 1A for a ride... after 7y (12000 hours) the battery is still relayively good from full to start blinking i get ca. 14 hours with mixed 16/44 flac and DSD

The DMP has transformed the XBA-Z5 to a very good ISM, my first impressions that it soubded dark and unresolving are now suddenly it sounds like a tuned down IER-Z1R or an IER-N7 in steroids

just jumping in to report that in balanced mode and high gain output, Hifiman Susvara can be driven well, even on battery.
Even higher output on AC. (though I like the music more on battery power)

I hadn't seen a DMP with the volume knob pointing at 2 o'clock before :dt880smile:. I know that the HD800s, which you also have in your inventory, can be driven with the volume knob around 11 o'clock. Where does the volume knob of your DMP point to while driving the Susvara and the HD800?

Thank you for this information. This is one of the reasons why I decided to buy the DMP-Z1, the possibility to drive difficult headphones like the Susvara...

For the use of the DMP-Z1 on AC, do you use a dedicated lpsu or the Sony charger provided with the DMP-Z1 ?

The volume is quite high ?

You can safely max it out with the Susvara on the DMP-Z1. At that level, the unit seems fine, no overheating at all. BTW, there are people who powers the Susvara through A Class Amplifiers speaker terminals. Benchmark sells an adaptor for their class AB and D amps for this purpose, with serious legalise attached.

I tried a few external linear power supplies. Really did not hear any difference with any of my headphones. The Sony's own is fine. It's never get hot even when I max out the power with the Susvara or Abyss 1266.

You can also listen to the Abyss 1266 ( headphone difficult to drive too) with the dmp-z1

What do you think is the most suitable case of the two (Abyss / Susvara) to work with the dmp-z1

By the way, I noticed that the Signature Series Brochure that was provided with my WM1ZM2 does not list the DMP-Z1

It's not discontinued but it seems that Sony stopped caring about it so chances are it gets discontinued as soon the stock is sold.

The brochure only lists the two Z1R, the WM1ZM2 and the SA-Z1

The DMP gives priority to balanced if you connect a single ended HP and a 4 at the same time, thee SE output is disconnected

I qm wondering how is the thing going om withthe DMP from @Rob49

This morning, it occurred to me, I haven’t been on here for awhile…..

I’ve actually just chased up with the lady at Sony HQ & she has promptly replied…..

She apologies for the delay, states that the part is now in mainland Europe & that Sony Central Repair will be contacting, shortly.

So, we shall see……

It’s discontinued in Japan. So it’s almost gone.
