A good idea has sprung forth here though. Maybe I should just start a thread that announces meets. People can subscribe and not deal with the email thing. What do you guys think? What would you prefer? I can create the thread, and notify everyone this first time by email to subscribe to the thread. I would just monitor it then and keep out responses. It would be for announcing only. As long as the mods don't lock it, it could work.

I've been meaning to suggest that we follow Michigan's example and start a Chicagoland HF group in the groups forum, http://www.head-fi.org/groups/. I would've done so, but I think it's more fitting for Audio Addict or you to throw the ceremonial first pitch.

I'll look into that.  I don't know how the groups work.  I really lost all understanding of this site after the overhaul.  I'll look into it if its a better way.

While I'm here, does anyone have recommendations for a place to get a decent P-mount cartridge for my turntable? I know there's not much decent equipment for P-mount record players, but I think Saturday Audio Exchange and some other stores have a small selection of options.

Give Arnold a call at Tweak Studio. He is a turntable specialist.

Not to mention an all around awesome guy and the sponsor of the event!

I'm sorry I missed this one gents. I hope we're able to do another soon. Did anyone post listening impressions of the GeekOut V2+?

I am sitting here right now using the balance out with my JH13PROs which were retrofitted with the FreqPhase and find them truly enjoyable.  The bass digs deep while the treble has really clear extensions with the mid fitting nicely, well right in the middle.

I am using Roon but have to use the volume control with the v2.29 driver which given the efficiencies of the JH13s is a very delicate task.  It turned out the red plug was actually there to prevent a SE from being plugged into the balance and AxelCloris just passed that along.  He now has the v2+ Infinity whereas mine are the ambassador version of the basic.

Well, it seems as though the work day has ended and I have yet to finish this short story. I guess I will wrap it up after my pickup soccer game and dinner... sorry for anyone who actually read through this all. I tend to ramble.

Nothing quite like getting paid at work to write meet impressions on an audio forum. :p

I spend a good portion of the work day reading and posting on an audio forum. Doesn't everybody?

I do too.  If my employer actually investigated my internet use I'd probably be in trouble.  lol

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, new to Chicago and I'm new to in-ears and somewhat new to DACs. Have been involved with hi-fi, pro audio, and production over the last 15 years.

I'm looking to meet people in Chicago that have common interests. Not sure if there is a club for Chicago for these things but I'd be interested. I have much to learn when it comes to headphones. I have had the same pair of Sennheiser HD590s since I bought them new from the Sennheiser employee accommodations list for some cheap price like $40. I've gone through countless garbage in-ears that I had gotten for dirt cheap. Like bought about 6 pair of Bose headphones (in on and over kinds) around $25-45/pair because I store I was at was dropping them.

So I have little experience in trying different brands. Got my first taste of a DAC of any kind from the Sherman Pre-Pro that had USB DAC built in with a decent sized high end headphone amp.

As for home audio well that's something I have nailed. It is what I specialized in and I chose to gravitate towards Jamo, Vienna Accoustics, Martin Logan, Sonus Faber hooked up to B&K w/ Modified NuForce DAC and an iDSD compatible ESSABRE DAC I put together.

I would like to meet you guys and learn about headphones DACs headphone Amps.

Don't laugh but I just got some boze sport because I heard they where great for sweat and since they didn't plug your ears up they make it easy to hear things around you. They sound horrible near or above modestly low levels. Harsh parts of the song require volume reduction (I have sensitive ears)

Anyways i would love to meet some people that would help me get hands on with this stuff. I'd totally be ok with introducing people to my home systems. One my most simple systems is my favorite. I have a pair of Modified Vienna Acoustics Haydn connected to one of B&Ks best 2CH over 300 w/rms. With custom made by me 1/2m speaker wires. Connected directly to a DAC with 1/2m hand made tubed solid silver interconnects. Listed to from a few feet away it's a near field listening station that I run my high quality recording through. Been thinking about noise issolation. Like using a laptop in battery mode with no moving parts ssd no fan cooling. Next thinking about isolating power from USB to DAC and using rechargeable batteries.

Anyways, the things I want help with most are

I'll be immediately looking into new in ears like Music Art Customs, Sony H1, fidue a73, maybe a pair of shures.

I'm also interested in electro static headphones and maybe retiring the HD590.

I want stuff that can do something my own home systems can't. So for no headphone I have owned has come close to the imaging of my near field system. I'm not looking to surpass it but I'd like to have something near it. Bass is important but it's the least important.

Regardless I would say what is most important is meeting people in Chicago that are like minded. I'm new hear I'm from Florida.

Headphone meets are a great opportunity.  You'll learn very quickly that this is a sharp and sophisticated crowd.  I say this as someone who's also getting more into headphones, but also coming from being very comfortable with 2 channel audio.  When you read some of these reviews, you'll be FLOORED at their detail and quality.  Although technically these are "amateur" reviews, they are often significantly better than "professional" reviews (in my opinion).   I wouldn't count myself as one of the heavyweights on this site, but there are quite a few.  And most of the people are NICE too.  Not condescending.  It's pretty cool.  Enjoy.

By the way, as examples of some of the amazing reviews, here are links to three of them from the HiFiMAN HE-1000 "Official Impressions" Beta Tester thread:
Highly favorable reviews:
1) money4me247
2) kayandjohn
Less favorable review, and something quite noteworthy is that this author's native language is French, not English:
3) Sorrodje
