Obscure Chinese DAPs

Will update this thread from time to time when new DAPs are announced / leaked.

Lotoo PAW Gold

Highlights:
DSD support
22wh battery
USB 3.0
High precision clock
Powerful amp (500mW @ 32Ω per channel)
Parametric EQ
Sapphire glass
24k-gold plated controls
rolleyes.gif

Release date: unknown

Claimed by the manufacturer to be a 'reference grade' player (and despite the hideous looks), this thing is gonna cost an arm and a leg (think USD $2000 level).

It's funny because Lotoo was a audio recorder manufacturer and virtually unknown in the head-fi community, and now they want to compete with iRiver...

P.S.: An interesting tidbit about Lotoo: A while ago HIFIMAN claimed Lotoo copied one of the original designs of the HM901 for one of the products (not this PAW Gold I think). You can read more about this here (Chinese only).

IHIFI770

http://www.i-hifi.com/770en.html

An interesting but lesser known budget DAP from Xuelin of IHIFI960 fame, its equipped with a single WM8740 and comes with two POs with different sound signatures. According to this review of an engineering sample, the sound is decent but the device suffers from crappy UI.

It costs RMB 999 and is available in China now.

Aune M1

The M1 is a 16/44.1 WAV-only player from Aune (Hifidiy). Comes in two versions: standard and deluxe version.

AFAIK the only difference between the two versions is the oscillator used.

Highlights:
Swappable DAC: Comes with PCM1793 at launch, may support ES9018, ES9023, AD1955, WM8741, TDA1543 in the future.
Swappable amp card, much like HIFIMAN
Pretty powerful amp: 700mW@32Ω
Good battery life: can drive HD650 for 8 hours (volume at 12 o' clock)
Low-jitter oscillator

Cons:
Support SD card up to 32G only (!)
No hi-res support
WAV-only...

HUM Pervasion

http://www.lyra-media.com/review_details.php?id=182

The Pervasion is a DAP of HUM, a company based in Hong Kong (I think). The Pervasion is equipped with Wolfson WM8741 and a class A amp section but doesn't support hi-res music. Volume is digitally controlled by WM8741.

Screen: 4.3 inch IPS, 800 x 480
Connectivity: WIFI, Bluetooth
Storage: 8G of internal storage and Micro SD

Shozy Alien

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.1.ccy64D&id=39281503541&ns=1#detail

The Alien is a DAP without a screen from a virtually unknown company called Shozy. Comes with no internal storage but supports Micro SD up to 32GB. Plays FLAC/WAV up to 24/96. No other specs are known.

Ships August 1, 2014. Pre-order price is RMB 668 (USD $107) and $838 (USD $141) afterwards.

Musiland Monitor 04/06 MX

The latest USB DAC/amp combos from Musiland that double as DAPs

Both 04 and 06 support PCM up to 32/384 (WAV, FLAC, APE, MP3) and DSD.

An interesting feature found on them is a new digital audio transfer protocol called MULINK (developed by Musiland, I suppose. More info here) that is capable of transferring native DSD64 and DSD128 to other MULINK-enabled devices.

The 06 MX uses PCM1798 for D/A conversion while the 04 MX has a PCM5102A.

Shanling M3

For those who are not familiar with the company, Shanling is a HI-FI equipment designer and manufacturer (CD players, amps) based in Shenzhen, China.

An interesting thing about the design is the volume control which doubles as a control wheel. Shanling says the idea came from traditional lighters.

Specs:
- DAC chip: Cirrus Logic CS4398
- Cirrus Logic CS8422 for upsampling
- AD8610 and BUF634 per channel
- LPF: ES2664

It seems the M3 is available now at the Official Shanling Taobao Store for RMB 1980 (USD $323). You can see more pics there.

Eros H06

Eros is a sub brand of Aigo, which is a pretty well known manufacturer of an wide array consumer electronic devices such as cameras, MP3 players, GPS, tablets, audio recorders etc.

The H06 is Eros first DAP (and perhaps the very first product of any kind). Not much is known except that it will have 2 MicroSD card slots.

This looks like an unlikely DAP: the Kaei DAP3 (Pro), which apparently claims to run iOS and an Apple CPU and display along with one or two ESS9038Pro dac chips depending on pro/non-pro version. In the photos it is slightly larger than an Ibasso DX220 Max.

Someone know Chinese well enough to translate the text in the pictures?

iOS? Didn't know Apple let other companies run iOS on their devices.

Agreed seems a very likely fake. Apple has never given anyone else their os. Not something they where ever OK with doing. I mean as far as Apple is concerned you can not build your own Mac, you either buy from them or build windows/hackintosch.

I wrote 2 months ago about this X10 touch screen player I got for $12.
Well... It didn't last it's first 100 hours, last weekend the only button that ON/wake up/OFF has sunken in.
The only way to set it ON now is by plug it to be recharge and then use it .... and use it... until drained.
** These GUERAY players are not to be found on aliXpress any more.

Got a link? Ali search is appalling at returning results for items that you know exist on there.

Hi all, I've been away from the scene for a long long time, so I'm no longer up to speed with what's out there. I have a question for which I don't wish to clutter the forum with yet another trivial new thread, so I hope you won't mind me asking here:

It's very simple - I have a Cowon Plenue J and the battery is starting to fade a bit, so I'm looking for a sensible money DAP to replace it. I'm not massively concerned with audiophile performance with this unit - I just want it to be fairly compact/lightweight with reliable firmware that's not too clunky, and very good battery duration. It will mostly be used for listening to audiobooks. The Plenue J was originally spec'd at 50+ hrs of battery duration (optimistic, but still pretty decent in real life).

http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/PLENUEJ/product_page_1.php

If it was still available, I'd happily buy a Plenue D (approx 100 hrs duration claimed by Cowon), but sadly that's long discontinued (although there is the secondhand market, I know). I'd be willing to suffer the lagginess of the OS to have the battery duration.

http://www.cowonglobal.com/product_wide/PLENUED/product_page_1.php

So, my question is: do any of you know of a DAP (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, or whatever) that can reach the dizzy heights of 50 or more hrs duration? (I'm not using lossless, just ordinary mp3 files).

Cheers!

The Cowon Plenue D still exists.
