I am curious if anyone has any thoughts on my current dillema
LCD-2 + HDP

or

LCD-2 + Mapletree Super II + ????

I'm waiting to have mine built and I am looking around for a dac/amp to buy as my current setup consists of a AK k81dj + nuforce uDAC.

I want to try a big tube amp like a Mapletree Super II but that really doesn't leave me too much $$ left over for a DAC.  Want to sapend around max 1000$ for the dac/amp.

Maybe I should have put this thread in the DAC/Source section. As my question would be is there any thing even remotely good for 2-300$ for a DAC for this or is it just a bad idea?

I have been reading some people like the HDP with the LCD-2, and for the cost, this looks like a really cheap/easy setup.

If I were to get the HDP now how well would that work as a DAC if I decide to get a WA6 or a different amp down the road? Farily decent?

Hey,
i'm in exactly the same boat.... i asked in the "Amp recommendation for LCD-2" trend and got replies in the last 10 pages of the trend....
i'll try sum it up here (please do read it yourself if ur going 2 spend this kind of money research is important)...
i was recommended to get the HDP first with the LCD-2, it's suppose 2 sound quiet good with just the dac/amp combo...
so i have ordered the HDP, it'll arrive on monday if i'm lucky.....
i didn't get a straight answer for WA6, people have their WA6's parts upgraded, so i don't know how it would sound stock, tho i did do some research and found that the maxed version or WA6SE version sounds quiet a bit better..... but also with a significant increase in the price tag.... so saving up for the WA6SE would be a good choice

Hope this helps...
good luck
