Great review! Wondering how it holds up against the A&K SE100, torn between these two ATM.

I've been wanting one of these since seeing it. I've recently made enquires to import one to the UK much cheaper than from penon, i'll update on here if its all good. If you use eq get the U8 for sure. My only concern is the lowish output power.

Unfortunately not an EQ user, I don't mind the low output power as I'll only be using it with IEMs, and I do have pretty sensitive ones, so wanna see if it hisses as well. Do let me know how it holds up against the WM1A, was planning on that as well.

Got a couple of these in to try out. I now have another favorite new DAP along with Cowon Plenue L and Hiby R6Pro.

Its really quite small, almost all screen,it looks and sounds gorgeous even before going near the EQ.
The EQ is just immense, 2 styles of PEQ, just the basic one has 32 bands and is a joy to use :L3000:
It does DSD512 like the DX200.
Boots up really quick (contrary to a recent review - must have been early firmware) it is actually a really nice gui, nicer than the Plenue L.

Did a firmware update over wifi smoothly.

The output power is a lot more than I was expecting, 3 gain settings, low, medium and high, I tried full volume in low, really nice sound, I just needed a bit higher volume, went to medium and on volume 68.
On high gain I had to turn the volume right down to about 26. This was tested on AKG Y55 on ear.

Just wish it had 4.4mm balanced.

All in all a fantastic DAP, i'm keeping one.

How does it sound like compared to your WM1A similar sound signature or more neutral?

Its quite different, my WM1A seems quite boring and fatigueing in comparison. Listening right now :L3000: seems to breathe new life into music. I listen to metal and it totally suits it.

Crazily good PEQ, 32 bands from 25hz to 22khz :L3000:

I've corrected my posts.

I thought it was 3 screens of 7 bands for PEQ
So i'd put 21 bands.

Its not, its actually 4 screens of 8 bands!!
So its 32 bands!! :L3000:

Sounds very promising, I personally heard the WM1A and thought the highs were quite harsh, would you say this is smoother? Wonder how it sounds with BA IEMs and Animals As Leaders.

Way smoother, no harsh highs. Unfortunately my ears don't get along with IEMs but this DAP is supposed to be really good for IEMs.

Tempted to ditch the A&K SE100 plan and dive into this, however I'm unsure if I should due to the warmer tonality of the DAP. Unfortunately I won't be able to try one out to compare. :/

What headphones, gain settings, volume, screen on time, second screen on time, file format?

I'll know better once i've charged it myself, just using the juice it came with for now
