Hello! Welcome to Head-Fi! The SRH440 are easily driven by various portable sources like mp3 players and your cd player, so you don't necessarily need to worry about amplification just yet. I should warn you though, as capable as the SRH440s are and they are superb headphones, they are a bit light in the bass area. So if you listen to bass heavy music or just like that extra thump in your songs the you might need to use the bass boost option on your cd player.

It depends on the combination between the impedance and  sensibility of the headphones

in your case : Sensibility: 105 dB/mW
Impédance : 44 Ohms
should be great without amplification
