I am looking for someone that has heard either the re400 and/or gr07 and the w20 to describe the w20 compared to one of the other two. Thanks

What about reading some reviews of the W20, then a few reviews of the RE400 and then some of the GR07 and taking your own conclusions? Just a suggestion : )

This thread is dead, head-fiers prefer the chinese brands now. Those who split in two right out of the box but that sound great and cost 3x less.

Reviews are not in abundance for the w20. I have and very much enjoy the gr07 and re400. I LOVE my k7xx which leads me to think the next step is a w40. Just curious how the w20 compares before I shell out the bucks. Thanks for the tip (no pun intended) .

I just went from RE400 to W40, but have not tried W20. If you like big bass, you won't like RE400. It's there, well sort of, if you turn up the EQ but is pretty weak compared with W40, which are fine with me flat. And I am not a bass head. Other than that, I liked them a lot. W40s are much more complex and layered than RE400. But there is a transparency and openness of RE400 that I like a little better I think. Though all things considered, the W40 is definitely the more evolved of the two.

You can get a deal at Sonic Electronics on W20s with make an offer button:

I got W40s from them for $367 instead of $500 everyplace else.

W30 doesn't sound like my cup of tea. W40 sounds like my next iem. Thanks guys.

In that case W40 would be your best bet, but read the comment above about the W20... Don't know, it's the first time I read this. Haven't heard W20 myself or I would tell you exactly. All I know is that W40 amped is superb (from FiiO X3), best IEM I've heard so far and have had many of the so called top-tiers. W3, UM3X, SM3, SM64, Sony EX1000, FX700 and so many others. Nothing comes close. I think that better than this just Shure SE846 and W60. And of course, some 6 driver customs.

Hi guys. Regarding fitting the true fit foam tips, With my comply tips on other earphones I was told to squish the foam before insertion. However, with the true fit foam w40 tips I am just sticking them in without squishing them and then rotating to position as per westone's instructions. No muffled sound for me, seems like it is working fine. Do you guys do this or squish the w40 foam tips before insertion? Squishing them closes the hole too easily compared to the comply tips so I have not done so.

Also, anyone able to compare the sonic affects of the comply p-100 tips compared to the stock westone foam tips?

I will give the star tips another try tonight. I like how well the foam tips stay in my ears, I fit the silicone tips tends to want to wiggle out. However, if the sonic differences are large enough I am sure I can make it work.

Just received the w30's yesterday. Moving on from the gr07 that had the left side fail after a little bit under 2 years. I agree with Paulus in that I preferred the star tips to foam because it didn't muffle the sound as much as the foam did. Definitely the foam provides better isolation. Just listening to it for an hour or so on my ipod, I noticed the w30 has a bit of a warmer signature than the gr07's and thicker bass. I am by no means an experienced reviewer though, and my gr07's haven't been out of commission for a couple months so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt. :p

I've just listened to the "Tears For Fears" Discography since 1993 and with the W40's its a whole new dimension. Jesus, you hear sounds from everywhere you have never heard before (not even with my Hi-Fi rig) and the vocals are amazing. X3 + E12A + W40 beats my 600€ Hi-Fi rig easily.

I wouldn't use foam tips. They do muffle the sound compared to the star tips and you will have half the bass quantity. Just losses.

Wow, you weren't kidding. The foam tips are definitely more muddy in the mids and highs, and the silicone does bring out the bass. The orange seems the best to me. Thanks man.
