Just listening to and enjoying the ED15 of Sony DMP-z1. I have a lot of headphones and have owned the ED15 for over 4 years and what keeps me going back to them is their natural and musical presentation. I remember Dan Clark from DCA talking about his motivation for creating the Expanse and how he wanted to achieve a presentation that was not so focused on separating every instrument apart from the others like many high end headphones due but instead delivered the music in a way that naturally blended the different elements together as if one was listening live. I have not heard the Expanse but ED15 does this beautifully while still delivering great sound stage. This is a very unique quality.

From what i’ve listened expanse is neutral (transparent) and have expanded soundstage/seperation, i think from what you’ve describe its quite different to the ed 15 which is more intimate and mid focused. I am actually curious how the ed 15 compared to zmf caldera because caldera also have a good mids and wonderful bass.

Changed out my electronics to drive the Edition 15 cans, and the results have been very positive. Picked up a PS Audio Direct Stream DAC, and a Aurouasound HEADA headphone amp. to drive the Edition 15s. Using the balanced inputs and output, the headphones really sound outstanding with this setup. They easily compete with some of the best high end headphones available. All aspects of playback, from rock solid bass, transparent midrange, to a detailed and fatigue free treble, are achieved. The soundstage really opened up, much wider and extends all around.

The S-Logic works great with this electronics setup. I think the complaints about the Edition 15 I've seen on sites is off base. The Edition 15's CAN and do sound incredible, BUT, I'm convinced they need TOTL electronics to get them to reach their potential.

I found a review about the new ultrasone Founders series from south korean shop. For me The open model is interesting but need more reviews about it..

Ultrason Sounds series

It's a classic design headphone, but the sound is different.

“It's a limited edition collection with a new driver and sound tuning while preserving the design and structure of Edition 8 and Edition 10 and 12. You can check out Ultrason's workmanship in a completely different sound from the old model."

German headphone company Ultrasone is gradually increasing the value-effective models tailored to the mobile sound market these days, along with its very classic high-end headphones. For example, the studio headphone 'Signature Pure' is the true color of Ultrason (?) for only 200,000 won. This is a cost-effective model that shows by the way How can Ultrason's high-end models make a difference? We're developing a new model that goes beyond the Edition 15 series, but we don't know how long it will take, so we probably need another breakthrough. In addition, it would be better if there is a symbolic product that honors the company's achievements in designing headphones.

So Ultrason's boss stepped out himself. (-_-)/

The 'The Founders Series', which is coming to Korea this time, is a special model that was tuned and produced by CEO Ultrason himself. It's a limited edition of 222 units and features 'Edition 8'-based sealed headphones and 'Edition 10, 12'-based open headphones. Their appearance is familiar to you for headphone enthusiasts, but the drivers inside have changed, so the sound is completely different. It's an 'attractive sound that's easy for everyone to accept' feel of the Edition 15 series on the Classic Edition series. It is said that the vibrating plate of the dynamic driver combines gold plating on the rim and titanium in the dome in the center. The headphone earpads are fixed and have thick filters, making it difficult to look into the driver, but if you shine well, you'll see the golden luster of the vibrator.

The Ultrason Sounders series showcases a high-end case and gorgeous design as an expensive item. by the way... It's a limited edition made by the boss himself, so a strange game system has been applied. The Sounds series has a lot of different designs and colors, and it is said that it goes in randomly. Even if you buy headphones, you won't know what they look like until you open the box. (The most expensive gacha game in recent times!) For example, the Edition 8-based Sounders series has a total of 7 designs. I looked at the Ultrason website and they all look handsome, but I like the fact that I can't choose for myself. The two Sounders series I'm showing you in the picture now are also randomly selected by the seller.

I'll see you again after a long time... I think the design of Edition 8 and Edition 10 is a classic in the headphone field. The headphones are so gorgeous! It is a visual that the wearer becomes a headphone hook.(-_-) and... I also think it would be great if the wireless headphones were made exactly as the design of Edition 8.

You don't need to look at the components, but you need to point out the cables. The Sounders series includes portable cables for outdoor use and thick, long indoor cables, which are convenient to use with a one-button remote but better for indoor cables in terms of sound quality. If you compare it, the indoor cable is clearer, higher and thicker. I play the bass However, the loss of the sound quality of the portable cable is not large, so you can use it for your convenience.

Edition 8 and Edition 10 are truly classic models with gorgeous designs, but the MMCX connector also follows thanks to the keeping the design of these items intact. If any of the cables for your earphones don't have an ear hook, you can fit them in the Sounders series. And fortunately, the MMCX connectors in the Sounders series are quite robust. If you are careful not to press or break the connector part while using it normally, you will be able to keep it stable for a long time.

Now~ let's listen to the sound of the Sounds series. Actually, this is the part I'm most looking forward to. LOL

The Founders Series
from Edition 8

20240417204213z_wrwyld.jpg

If you're new to the Edition 8 Funders series, you'll start thinking that it sounds at very high resolution and something unusual. There's also a frequency response form of flexure, but it's much different from reference headphones at a price similar in the color and texture of the note. Among Ultrason headphones, the high-end models never sound normal - if you expect it this way, most of them are right.(-_-)a For example, the Edition 8 EX and Edition 11 show the poles with a very cool cider sound and a very warm coffee sound.

These are headphones that are not easy to drive. You need to listen with more volume than the Edition 10 and 12 Sounders series. It's also a convenient edition 8 for outdoor viewing, but basically it's recommended to listen on a mounted headphone amplifier. If you listen with the headphone jack of the DAP, let's enjoy the high gain in the large, high-output DAP.

*It's the sound of Edition 8, but only the performance aspect has improved.

I've heard the edition 8 palladium version, but it's been so old that I can't remember hearing... Still, if you think about it, I think the sound of the Edition 8 Sound of the Series is a distinct upgrade. (The structure hasn't changed, but the driver has changed to a new model, so maybe it's a natural result?) Edition 8's signature gorgeous high notes and enchantment. The low tone is still the same, but it seems that only the ability to accurately convey the sound has improved. The sound resolution is higher, and high. middle . I balanced the bass well. Overall, it has become a better sound conveyor, with a quick response and no unnecessary residue. There is a peak (sply) in some high notes, but it's better trimmed than Edition 8 EX, so it's less irritating. In addition, the mid-to-line became thicker, and the bass and ultra-low sounds changed to an agile, hard type.

20240417204227z_gsyfpm.jpg

*Does not emphasize the scale of the sound

It's a sealed headphone with small ear cups, and Ultrason's long-standing 'positioning the driver downwards' creates a unique sense of space. (S-Logic Series) This is because the sound from the driver vibration plate reaches the user's earlobe and then reflects into the ear hole. But the scale of the sound is originally formed small. If you rub the frequency response form and emphasize the bass as a super low, even small headphones can feel big, and this product is such a method (??) I don't use it, I just deliver it to my original size. Because of this, I try to increase the volume, but only the volume increases, and the scale does not change.

Among the UltraSon Edition series, products with metal ear cups have a similar internal structure. There is a screwdriver at the bottom of the earcup and four large holes at the top, all of which are opened or taped to adjust the sound. The Edition 8 Sounders series seems to have been tuned by blocking several holes in the ear cup when looking at the scale of the sound.

20240417204234z_fnppex.jpg

*Fun and thrills pursued in balance

The Edition 8 Sounders series pursues unique and thrilling fun in a baseline balance. It's a blend of 'easy-to-enjoy sound' featured in Edition 15 with the distinct personality of Edition 8. If you have a chance to listen to these headphones yourself, you are more likely to be attracted to the following features from the beginning~! I think about it and make a list altogether.

1) There is a dazzling brilliance in the high notes.
: If the source quality is normal, you'll feel the splendor of light in light blue and golden on most devices and systems. If you describe it roughly... The highs are the champagne gold color, with the 4 to 7 kHz area slightly like a dip (recess), and an intentional peak (spin) in the 7 to 10 kHz area. A very exhilarating carbon-like high sound comes out cool, but there is not much auditory stimulation and only the dizzying pleasure increases. However, let's be careful because the dizzying may be too strong in music with bright high-pine songs or electronic dance with a lot of stimulation.

2) The elasticity of mid- and low-pitched is very high.
: You can think of it as a solid silicone rubber. It's a type that cuts short punches with a high bass, and it has a very soft texture and heavy strength. If you're enjoying Tam Tam and the Snare part among the drums, you'll love this tump bass bat. Not only the old edition 8, but also against other headphones I've used recently. The bass punch in the Edition 8 Sounders series is a complete high-speed and has the characteristics of being clear and concise.

3) The sound image is formed very cleanly.
: middle . This is because there is no unnecessary residue in the bass and the ultra bass played by the driver is exceptionally clear. Ultra-low vibrations are not very emphasized, but you can feel a distinct 'super-low membrane (Layer)' at the bottom and rim of the ear. The bass is not strong, but the brain knows that the bass is right there.

4) The mid-tone is thick, close, and powerful enough to be called vocal headphones.
: Because of the perverted design of tilting the driver down, the sound comes around one lap and the vocals don't sound close enough to get to the eardrum. Instead, the vocals' energy itself gets a great power buff. Listening to female vocals with these headphones is a different world... As the power of the voice becomes stronger, the high notes become as colorful as golden, and the low notes have a concise elasticity. It's definitely different from the voice I've always heard, but it's an addictive change in terms of auditory pleasure.

The Founders Series
from Edition 10, 12

20240417204255z_qftkpx.jpg

Edition 10, 12 the Sounders series are open-ended headphones in full-size ear cups. For now, a portable cable is included, but listening with a mounted headphone amplifier in a quiet room is the basic usage. It's actually a very comfortable headphone to wear, so it's perfect for listening to the scene of leaning on the sofa.

*Replace the puzzle in Edition 10 with bass-sounding olaunder headphones

In my opinion, the Edition 10, which was made solely for the performance of a classical orchestra, would have been exceptionally special headphones for the Ultrason representative. Violently exhilarating high notes and flutuating frequency response forms were not an easy puzzle even among headphone enthusiasts. Edition 12 that came out after that completely forgot about Edition 10(?!) I selected a sound that is close to the olaunder. Still, there's still a distorted tone, but it's a more comfortable high tone and a more cozy, wider bass. so... I was secretly looking forward to how perverted the Sounds series would be, combining the sound inclination of Editions 10 and 12 with the sound inclination of Editions 10.

But again, Ultrason did sound tuning for the majority of high-end headphone users, not a handful of perverted reviewers like me. The sound of the Edition 10, 12 Sounds of the Sounds series is high resolution. Medium and hard and grand bass coexist and are well-trimmed so that there are no too bouncy or strong parts. Like the Edition 8 Sounders series, the high notes are gorgeous, but they don't exude golden too brightly. Like the Edition 8 Sounds series. The elasticity of the bass is very strong, but the scale of the bass and super low is much larger. And the wide space with open, large ear cups gives you the pleasure of listening to a pair of high-end speakers in a quiet room.

20240417204303z_tdwuja.jpg

In other words, if you just look at the sound, the Edition 8 Sounders series is high. It's a mid-negular headphone and the Edition 10 and 12 Sounders series are called low-pitched o-sounder headphones. Therefore, if you want to make a safe choice in sound, regardless of whether it's enclosed or open, I recommend the Edition 10, 12 Sounders series. especially... If you enjoy playing a large orchestra, I think you should definitely go to the edition 10 and 12 model. (-_-)b

*Meeting expectations of 'expensive and good sound' is complete

It's close to Edition 12 on the outside, and these headphones are mixed with the sound of tons of Ultrahand headphones. Listening to standard jazz and classical orchestral music, I suddenly feel the sharp and cool of Edition 8 EX in the high notes, and then the champagne gold tone of Edition 8 gushes out. The same is true of the thick lines and strong power that come out of the low high and mid-pitched parts of the human voice. However, the feeling that the heavy punch of the high bass rings deeper and the temperature rises warmly in the ultra-low-low vibration is the never-ending edition 11. (That's the edition 11 of the Wood Ear Cup.)

I've used Ultrason headphones a lot, so I've described this complicated way, but if you're new to UltraSon, the Edition 10, 12 Series of Sounders will give you an ordinary 'expicent and good sound.' I paid for it at a high price, so these headphones have to give away the elements of the music clean with very clear high resolution and amazing three-dimensionality, and create a loud speaker-like spacious and grand sound space in my head - this is what it really is.

20240417204309z_wnnjzs.jpg

*It's a pyramid-shaped sound, but it feels strangely different.

The shape of the sound is in the shape of a pyramid. It reminds me of the super low at the bottom and the bottom with the bass, mid, high, and ultra high raised in a trimo. The sound in the form of a pyramid is made wrongly because of the bass. The mid-tone may be obscured, but if it's well made, it's perfect with low-pitched oal-sounder headphones. Edition 10, 12 The Sounders series are also well-crafted pyramid-sounding headphones. However, the thickness of the sound line is very different. The bass and ultra-low are very thick, but the high and mid-pitched sides are made quite thin. If you listen to a song with little or little bass, it's in the light air. I feel like the mid-tone is flying around in a dazzling way. This is probably also due to the unusual driver vibrator material and ear cup structure of these headphones, a high of gaseous or liquid texture on top of the bass of a solid chunky texture. It looks like a neutral sound is floating. So you can feel a very strange and pleasant three-dimensional feeling that you can't feel on other headphones.

20240417204318z_brdczc.jpg

20240417204326z_arjnhj.jpg

*Modern headphones with precision and delicate sound

This level of features aside, Edition 10 and 12 Sounders Editions are acoustic equipment that delivers high-faithness sound with fast response, high resolution, and excellent sound separation. It can be said that it is a modern headphone with precise and delicate sound. It's added to this with a hard, heavy punch and a high-elastic bass, and the super-low sound with a grand background lays the foundation for listening to the music. I also like that I don't ride the music genre thanks to this 'sound strategy that goes back to the basics'. No matter what song you listen to, you feel that the highs are brighter and the bass is richer, but the experience of sound is cooler, clearer, and the space is expanded and larger is common. ■

Thank you for posting this review of Ultrasone Founders Series, I'm wondering if anybody here actually bought some of these. :)

So they reused ED8 and ED10/12 design with ED15 GTC driver and also added S-Logic EX technology inside (the drivers would be tilted). This seems to be an interesting mashup suggesting that maybe S-Logic 3 from the newest Signature series is not necessarily the best out there or just designed for Signature models for now. Anyway, as an owner of ED12 headphones (with aftermarket pads though) I would not say they are too bright or something. In fact they are the most neutral and hi-fi sounding phones from Ultrasone in my collection. Even Edition Eleven are more musical sounding. As for Edition 10 I guess Tyll gave them all the advertisement they needed :D Also I never had original Edition 8, only ED8EX and M+ Black Pearl and the first one actually sounded quite empty right out the box but the sound became richer after some use. The second one is a fun V-shaped can in my opinion.

Would be nice to get a hold on some of these someday :)

The last time i am looking for the signature open, Dreamaudio.eu in bratislava said they can make agreement for signature open demo, maybe if you are really interested you can ask them about it (if you lives near the country).
