New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000
Feb 5, 2019 at 10:34 AM Post #5,206 of 9,409
I'm new here and about to get my sp1000m, so I'll ask now, even if I'm sure it's findable somewhere back in thread:
How about the Apple chargers, like the ones that come with the phones?
I'm in Europe, and not sure how voltages and charging mix or not with the player...

Apple charger should not use bcs lower than expected spec. Very long charging time is a bad thing.
Apple charging is 1.0A right?

I'm using a 5V 2.4A and a 5V 2.1A chargers and the charge time is around 2 hours.
Fast chargers can kill the battery life even if they seem pretty convenient.
I also make sure SP1000 is fully discharge before starting a new one

Guys, how many times in a month are you charging the SP1000 ?

In fact, I asked because everything I know points to fast charging being not fantastic for batteries...
Most Apple chargers are 1.0A, which is not fast charging, but should work fine with a normal battery.
I'm asking just to be sure...

Actually completely discharging modern batteries is not recommended and can hurt performance and capacity. I had posted some detailed info on charging cycles and against completely discharging from some of the battery manufacturers a while back. I will see if I can find it and repost

TY for the update
Fully discharging was not the right term.
I usually recharge when comes the battery warning around 15%, so I'm quite sure I'm doing it right.
I look forward to read about the manufacturers recommendations, I like this device too much to mistreat it !

@Luisonic

5V 0.5A or 1A are not powerful enough and some devices simply won't charge.

I'd love to also read from the manufacturer whether one is save to plugin any USB-C charger.

Which in turn will load (normal or fast) depending on how voltage and ampere suit SPK's specs and which rejects to do anything at all, in case the charger doesn't suit SPK's specs.

This, btw, is how I understand the new USB-C charger standard.

Apple charger is fine to use. It will not fast charge, but it is within spec for normal charging.

I am charging min around 1 to 2 times per week. I listen every day and even use it when I fall asleep with my solaris.

As a side note I am pleasantly surprised with how good the LCD 4Z sounds with the sp1000. I am going to audition the Hugo TT2 tonight we will see but there might be an impending financial crisis.

Can anyone explain abit about the "Pro EQ" setting please?
It seems to lower the DB by a considerable amount but that makes true comparisons pretty hard for me?
What is it supposed to do and what is it suited / designed for?
Is anyone leaving this on all the time? :)

I use my SP1000M mostly with Campfire Audio Cascades, Westone ES30 and Campfire Audio Andromeda's.

It's just EQ preset to fine tune the sound, and typically manufacturers lower pre-gain when EQ is enabled, to avoid clipping during the adjustment (when you are boosting bands). I have a feeling that preset was probably derived using A&K own re-branded headphones/iems, just to smooth out the sound. So, whoever was tuning it, adjusted to their liking. But if it works for your headphones/iems - enjoy it :) There is nothing more to it, just a preset.

Hi @JasonNYC Any news on when we can expect Roon?

@jmas

Maybe a possible workaround for your need which is also mine.
Musicbee as a music manager & player does it well.
Create 2 Playlists one for internal memory and one for the SD card.
The SP1000 will appear as a portable device with MTP.

Hi,
Thanks for your answer. Can you point me to some tutorial or help document on how to do that? I installed musicbee in my PC but don't fully get how to make the SP1000 appear as a portable device.
Thanks again!
