New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

I use U18t with bal out of SPKM (1ohm) and the sound is ok. 2ohm SE output of SPKM is OK too, there I use U18t with 3.5mm adopter. In general, U18t is OK with outputs up to 2ohm, but going higher will cause issues. I covered that in my recent review of l&p L6 where se 2.2ohm output was OK, but bal 4.4ohm messed up the sound.

My current companion to my SP1000M is LCDi4 and there is an EE Legend-X in the post hopefully arriving next week to cover the cases where I need full isolation. They are both SE connectors (LX is second hand, so I didn't have a chance to choose). The question is, do you think it would make sense to go balanced for these IEMs? I would not expect the LX to go up to 300 ohms and I already like the sound coming out of i4 especially in the bass region, but at least I can modify the cable of LX myself and maybe buy a balanced cable for i4, if it would really be an upgrade. What do you think?

I couldn't speak for i4, perhaps these planar magnetic iems can benefit from higher voltage/power output of BAL out, but in general I found the sound from SPK/SPKM bal out to have wider soundstage perception and blacker background. Plus, keep in mind that depending on the replacement cable, type of material, and number of wires/conductors, you can decrease the impedance of the cable which could affect and in some cases improve the sound further.

LX comes with Ares II, already a great cable from EA. I recently tested it with Ares II 8 wires, on my blog, and it had an interesting effect on the sound due to doubling of wires and reduction of impedance. But anyway, don't want to drag this into a cable discussion

Hi,

Is there an issue with Playlists ?

I'm having trouble using the playlist file the way I did before the firmware update.

Before:

I was able to copy the playlist "M3U" files from my Windows 10 PC to the SP1000 into a custom folder named "Plists" located on Internal and External memory (It was working well)

Now :

The custom folder "Plists" is not working anymore.
The default "Playlists" folder located on External memory is not working anymore, I can't browser files on my SP1000

When I copy the M3U files from my PC directly to defaut "Playlists" folder (Int Mem) it ends with a 0 bytes files but I can see the list name (with 0 song) on the SP1000
When I copy the M3U files from my PC directly to a custom folder name "Plists" (Int Mem) the file size is OK but i can't browse the list on the SP1000

From the SP1000, I need to move or copy from the "Plists" files to the default "Playlists" to have it working again and the file size is OK and I can play it on the SP1000.

I noticed the M3u files with music located on SD card can be move on Internal memory and play well... (It was not the case before the update)
Big M3U files copy hang.

Edit:

I found a Work around.

I changed from .M3U format to .PLA and It works well and faster... the way it is supposed to do
@Daibaron Not that I am aware of. I will look into it when I am back in the office on Monday.

Is there a report about a batery measure problem since the 1.10 firmware? Is strange...for exemple i ear for an hour or more and the batery goes from 100 to 98% them i turn it off and in the next day when i turn it on the batery is on 90 or 85% that never happened before....
@denis1976 If you scroll back about 15 or so posts, there were a few people mentioning issues with the battery indicator since the update and I confirmed we found a bug and are working on a fix.

My unit seems to be constantly resetting itself when in line-out mode. Mostly when changing the volume or changing track. If I leave it playing it seems okay. Anyone got an ideas? It's upgraded to the latest firmware...
@gonzfi Have not heard anything from anyone else regarding issues with line out since last firmware update. Let me follow up with our development team and see if anyone else has reported it.

Was it working correctly before the update? I would also suggest trying a factory reset and see if that fixes the issue. Please note, doing a factory reset will erase all settings and files on the player.

Ty, forget the Work around It does not work with files stored on SD "0 Bytes" using .PLA format
Maybe Windows 10 recent update broke something... i can't tell so far.

is Tidal considered the best hifi streaming service at the moment? I love Tidal, but the shuffle algorithm is driving me nuts. I can't get my entire large playlist to shuffle completely, it only shuffles the first hundred songs or so. To get it to shuffle the whole playlist, I need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the playlist (which is tedious with 1000+ songs) and then scroll all the way back up, and hit shuffle.

Any other recommendations?

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks. Annoyingly I have just noticed a dead pixel in the middle of the screen

@JasonNYC

Hi Jason, I just want to add that after a factory reset the issue is still persisting.
Syncing Playlists from PC to my SP1000 doesn't work t all even after I just installed the current 1.11CM Firmware

I'm also looking forward to hear if other users are having the same issue.

Thanks

Sorry, didn't realize a new firmware update was released overnight. I don't have any info on it, but will find out. I assume it is the battery indicator fix for the bug that was found last week in the new firmware and was being worked on
No biggie, just was curious if there was a changelog for all firmwares

Firmware Ver 1.11. 398MB(or 389MB sorry I'm not sure). About the same size as Ver 1.10?
Fix the battery measure problem and improve other operational stability.
I downloaded and applied to my SP1000SS and SP1000CP.
