New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

I don't understand their strategy.
How will they justify the price of AK SP 1000? SP 1000M is like a twin brother and less expensive. I don't think there will be any sound differences.
I am feeling that I have wasted my money on sp1000.

Eh- five ounces lighter, a screen one inch smaller, blue, aluminum. And I have absolutely no issue with the volume wheel. Not even a scintilla of desire for it. :)

Did you guys/gals also read the last paragraph of the announcement? "New firmware will debut with the SP1000M that adds Android APK support, allowing users to install additional music streaming services to their player by simply copying and installing the corresponding APK file for the music service they wish to add."

So, maybe Spotify is in the future? Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Btw, looks like BAL output spec has been improved, up to 4.2Vrms and 123dB SNR.

Yeah, and I have a feeling that it will debut with SP1000M and then make it over to SP1000 and other supported A&K DAPs.

@JasonNYC Where do you place SP 1000M in terms of SQ ? Will it bridge the gap between SE100 and SP 1000 or it's similar to SP 1000 with a smaller size and slightly better balanced output?

I actually haven’t seen or heard the SP1000M yet. We are expecting a few to arrive here in the US on Monday or Tuesday. Since it will only come in aluminum, I am assuming it will be pretty similar to the differences people heard sound wise between the AK380 aluminum and the AK380 SS/CU. Internals are the same as the full sized SP1000 except for the amount of internal memory.

With the ability to install Android APKs, can we assume that Apple Music will be working on the SP1000M?

If the AK380 is anything to go by, I think maybe the saving grace for us SP1000 owners is that SS / Copper will produce better sound than the aluminium. The sonic differences between the materials appears to be quite unanimously recognised based on the AK380. I'm not too fond of that blue colour either and I think that my copper unit looks stunning.

We’ll share more details and specifics about the new firmware and features over the next few weeks.

I'm actually quite excited for the new firmware. I hope the SP1000 gets the new firmware along with or prior to the SP1000M - surely the flagship deserves that treatment!
