New TOL A&K DAP : the AK Ultima SP1000

I would try a balanced cable with the k702. Also in the future it would be worth your time to look into getting a more resolving headphone or iem. The 702 is nice but you will not get the most out of the sp1000 with them. I personally love my JH Roxannes and audeze lcd x with my sp1000. The balanced out certainly sounds better with both of them too.

Ok, first post, so hi to all, fairly new to the audiophile community and i know i have a lot to learn. Anyway, NAD C370, AE aesprit 309's, ak sp1000 onyx black. No fancy cables yet, just bought my first house a year ago. On the sp1000, it seems that when i set it to line out, on the NAD, i get distortion at 1V and up in mid range. I have a 2.5mm trrs to rca's going to the input. When i play it through my Nakamichi cd400 in my car however, I get no distortion, i am just connected through a 3.5mm cord though. Not anything fancy but not one of those gas station aux cords. So 1. Do i need to have the dual plug adapter if i want to plug into my receiver using balanced out? 2. Is there any reason, other than just not having enough gain on the amplifier that you would use a line out voltage above the .7v? If these are questions that jave been asked a billion times, i apologize, I did search quite a bit through the thread and didn't find an answer. And as far as why i bought an sp1k for my first DAP, i ordered a kann and Amazon sent me an sp1000 in onyx black accidentally. After talking with Amazon customer service, they have let me keep it. Would have kinda liked to have the dedicated line out and integrated amp, but the deal was just too good. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, and thanks in advance,
Hunter
They gave you an SP1000 for the price of the Kann? If so, deal of the century.

As for an amp, at least for carrying around using iems you don't need one. If you have really hard-to-power earphones you might need one for home use.

Also, the case logic QHDC101 hard drive case fits the sp1000 perfectly with the leather case on it if anyone was looking for one

I know that on my current setup it might be overkill, but since i have separate terminals for high and low i thought it would be cool to try bi amping one of my speakers, do you have to go through a separate crossover to split the signal into high and low? or is it possible to have the output from the sp1k to be lows on the left channel and highs on the right?

Hi Guys, bit of a long shot question here. Has anyone used the SP1000 as a transport into the Dave?

If so what connections/cables were used?

Currently use iMac/JRiver via USB to Dave and just want to explore other possible options

You can go USB-C out of the SP1000 into DAVE. I've done it into a Hugo2 and it works just fine. There's also the optical out.

Wow, SP1000M, half the weight of SP1000 with the same dual AK4497EQ DACs. This would be the ultimate DAP for me if they shrunk
the overall dimension substantially while maintaining the same level of sound quality. Of course, minimal 8 hours run time required.
For me the size was the main shortcoming for SP1000. If they only reduce the weight with the similar dimension, no merit.

... and I just purchased the SP1000 last month :triportsad: :triportsad: It seems like there's no benefit to the full-sized SP1000 anymore?

I hope the firmware update will also come to the full-sized SP1000 to support Spotify or other streaming apps.

I’ve owned the SP1000CU for almost a year and I never found the dimension being an issue, I personally find the SQ being more important than weight and design, 90% of the time my player sit in the pocket of my backpack.
I’m still very curious about this new player, it looks like the design is an evolution of the SE100. I hope AK has improved the volume wheel of the “old” SP, it’s the week point of an amazing dap.
