Great stuff did you compare your A55 with it although i am sure there is no contest i find the A55 not as good as my ZX300 it lacked detail in the sound

I've compared it with both my stock and CFW units.

Sounds a lot better than stock, and sometimes beats out the CFW as well.

Has anyone tested this as a transport to an external DAC please? Does it work with a Schiit DAC?
Yes, I was using mine to drive a Modius and my new Bifrost 2/64 -- works fine, though I'm not sure if it's using direct control or still going through the stock Android signal path. I think the Walkman app can go direct.

Sadly the US model volume limit -- and obnoxious 'stop playback after 20 hours' -- applies to the USB output as well, even though you basically have to crank the media volume to 100 for it to be at a reasonable level over the DAC.

Just had a quick listen for about 10 minutes this little thing sounds pretty good i didn't notice any bass reduction at all, i listed to the same songs on my ZX300 it had the same bass impact .

I noticed the sound is tuned differently from the A105 if i recall.... its slightly brighter on the A306 the A105 was warmer but it sounds damn good

To my ears my unit sounds fine i definitely have plenty of bass from the tracks i have played so far, the sound from the 3.5mm is really surprising it beats the ZX300 3.5mm there is more details must be that added brightness of the sound, it is not a harsh brightness but done to get a little more space from the music . Sony have a little hit on their hands with this one :L3000:

I will do the REW test later as i am charging it at the moment .....

You like the Grey/Titanium too ? Looks better in the flesh than in photos. So glad I went for that colour.

Was pretty sure you would like it, I think the sound stage is a bit bigger than the a105 was too. Worth it for smoothness and battery life alone.

I really like it looks great with the the rippled effect on the back and nice tactile side buttons ...its got a nice little heft to it as well it sounds better than the A105 the tuning and hardware upgrades has given it a lot more detail in the music for sure

I have zero regrets selling the 1AM2, even better when I sold it for only ~£50 under what I paid for it :relaxed: (exc. included TPU case & glass screen protector).

I'm currently sat A-Bing with my M9's between 3.5mm SE cable and its 4.4mm balanced cable via the balanced 3.5mm(M)/4.4mm(F) adapter to see if worth having the less convenient connection for sound improvement via 3.5mm balanced earths.

Much better cpu being used this time. That smaller silicon is so efficient. Glad you like it, enjoy! I want the blue flip case to go with mine. I guess ebay is best choice.

If anything, i would expect that adding extra adapters to have a negative impact on the sound.
Can't imagine any "improvements" since it's the same output with the same characteristics.

Most of the adpters are very transparent with little to no resistance. Plus it definitely has wider staging with the balanced adapter for me. It's readily apparent. My adapter is pretty inconspicuous, going from a right angle to a right angle 2.5 plug. Plus it was 9 dollars.

I tested a demo a306 at the Sony store, that one definitely didn’t have the bass cut - it was nice and plentiful bass, similar to zx507. Made me sad Sony didn’t want to sell me the demo unit and they didn’t have anymore in stock.
