So a customs charge of €73.99 is due for the a306, not too bad, was expecting more, I paid €292 for it with €22 shipping from Japan to Ireland

Crazy a few years ago that would have been £50 tops

Unless lucky. I had two Hiby's straight from Hiby in China and a Khadas Tea and all seemed to slip through without extra charges.

Etymotic are very neutral, and I don't like the deep fit. I don't think it would be a good match with a306, which is already neutral- neutral bright. There's so many chi fi iems too. That fiio looks nice, and I wouldn't mind trying the Sony F7 or F9 myself.

Anyways just to mess around I've got a 4 pole 3.5 balanced to 2.5 balanced adapter coming today. I don't expect anything but maybe a little cleaner output and maybe a bit better crosstalk. My curiosity got the best of me since sony said they were using a 4 pole jack. Better grounding, probably nothing audible will come from it. But it was cheap so... BTW I tried my ibasso dc03 pro today and it sound so dark compared to the Sony, and the Sony still has great bass, it's just really punchy and clean.

You know its almost certainly PSYOPS. Edit to clarify yep there is some crazy tech that the awacs crew said and I trust them. But anything released in MSM like this is almost certainly a distraction.


Back on topic I'm hedging on getting the capped one from Amazon UK. If I get on with it / use it then I'll return it and get uncapped. Amazon hate me.

According to sony's own page yes.I don't expect any meaniful changes, but I thought it might help with the wee bit of screen noise, hiss I get.

Just tried it, it actually seems to have a bit wider stage with the balanced 3.5. I'll listen more tonight as my mind could be playing tricks on me but that's how it sounds.

I hear you. But conversely you guys are brave without warranty support. IF and yep its a huge IF it can drive the ERA-1 and RHA CL2 then can buy from amazon.de for 2 year warranty.
