New Sony Walkman NW-A300 Series (Android 12)

UAPP does the first unfold to 88.2 or 96 kHz (if you purchased the add-in)... that's it. UAPP does not use the MQA renderer, verified by logcat. The Walkman app does use the MQA renderer, if you have any local MQA files, of course...
Thanks for clarification, yep about 30+ MQA albums.

for me its not bad. im 40 and have hearing loss prob off listening to cassette walkmans too loud and all the time from being a kid, thru ipods etc.

i use it mainly with sony Bluetooth headphones on commute so the cap doesn't apply.

and in the house i plug in koss porta pros or grado sr60 both of which are way loud enough for me and not at full volume
im in bed right now with the portapros plugged in and my volume is at 42 and its easily loud enough

Thanks for clarification, yep about 20 MQA albums.

And to further clarify, the Tidal app will perform the first unfold to 88.2 or 96 kHz, but then it is resampled to 48 or 192 kHz depending on the high resolution streaming setting on the DAP. I only have a few MQA local albums. True hi-res seems to make more sense when purchasing...

Lets just say I had Tidal a while back 😊 and did some testing.

I thought UAPP now used Red path so outputs bit perfect, not using the Android rate.

Also in bed with my SE846 and uncapped 307 and for laugh listening 1/120 and can still hear it 😁.

23/120 plenty loud enough for casual background listening.

60/120 too loud.

His 23 and 60 aren't your 23 and 60 trust me lol. Must like soft music or have bat ears. I'm listening on 103 right now. Ok well in be yes, that's different but normal listening I couldn't hack it, it sounded awful.

This is even pushing it uncapped. I mean compared to every other dap I've had. People were complaining about 100 mw @ 32 ohms lol. Try 35 @ 16 or whatever the capped one is. One of the negatives of the digital class d amp.

It does use the bit perfect red path. But it doesn’t use the MQA renderer. Neither does the Tidal app.

That's all that matters, I've never had a capped one before because we didn't have that nonsense here and I generally got overseas ones because of limited color choices here. Now I know why so many import them in the UK , at least here on head fi.

You are right, I wasn't - first unfold (Core) is to 88.2 or 96 kHz.

Made quite a few posts in this thread , have a look :) I have a version from Amazon Germany and have none of the issues either. Am very pleased with it so far.

I do recommend measuring tho and returning if you have the bass issue
Right... I'll do the testing ahead of receiving it, with my 2 ifi DAC's for comparison (or even with my Ugreen Apple dongle) - in fact I normally do the frequency response test with a Nakamichi tool (SW emulation) when I finish repairing cassette tape decks before selling them. The posted FR graphs of the affected units are even worst than my 30 year old TEAC tapedeck (test made at -20db output) - you only see a drop below 40Hz, otherwise flat from 40 up to 20KHz :relaxed: [ops - can't find a way of inserting a local image file]

Can anyone suggest any 3rd party cases for the A306 ? thinking of ordering the A105 case looks like it might fit

I got mine from AliExpress, silicone case came bundled with tempered glass

Japanese ones (mine) have rubber stopper. I also use one in 3.5mm port when not using20230307_213717.jpg

Ey! Same here!
