Mine does not do this. But, it is very easy to take the cover off by the small screws and a guitar pick. It could be that something is folded like a ribbon cable o some of the plastic electronic coverings are wadded? Maybe, just a guess, but you might just be able to see and reassemble it.

EDIT: ok i got it open. nothing seems to be broken or out of place, i think its just a looser connection there. i've put it back together and it still clicks. i guess i could pack something inside to stop it if i choose to.

Glad you got it open. Maybe just a little blu-tac to quiet down that squeaky corner.
If you’re comfortable taking it apart one step furthe, you could upgrade the 64gb card that’s in there with a 128gb card thus giving you more storage. I did that, and it was pretty easy. I did mangle up that blue protection plastic a bit though. The tutorial for that is posted a few pages back by another member. I just followed his instructions.

thanks. ive opened up the player again and stuffed some bluetac as suggested in that corner. worked a charm. while only cosmetic it feels solid now and has managed to quell my psychotic tenancies to constantly click away at that corner

I'm really frustrated with this little piece of crap...

Because the DB update takes literally FOREVER, it usually shuts off the dap again before you realise that it finished. (Happens all the time, because it often takes 5minutes and more for it to start.)
So, I listened to you guys and switched it to sleep mode. That way, however, the battery drains SUPER quickly. Where I had weeks of listening before, I charge it up and have an empty battery after one week of NOT using it.

I just recently bought a pair of Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB microSD cards. Unfortunately, the player won't recognise it. And since the menu is complete and utter crap, there is no way of knowing, what the problem is.
I reformatted the damn card half a dozen times, copied my files over (the identical files I had on the 32GB card before) and it still doesn't work.

The manual says, you have to format it using FAT32 if it's 132GB or larger, which is ridiculous, since there is no FAT32 format for storage media this large.

The SD card works fine in other devices, so shouldn't be the issue.



While I love the sound and battery life of the D2, I really hate everything else about it. If only the FiiO X5II had the same battery life, I would've friggin' ditched the Cowon long ago.

So did you format the card using a FAT32 formatter or not?

If the card is formatted in ExFAT or NTFS, it will not work in the PD2.

Also, why did you choose Extreme Pro. Those are for video cameras and pro photography. They are massive overkill for music playing.

You need to format your memory card using program Guiformat FAT32 with "Allocation unit size" = 32768.

No, I did not use an extra program to format the SD card. I guess, I should've read the manual correctly. After several tries with GUIFORMAT, I finally managed to turn it into a FAT32 card. Currently moving over my music stuff to that disk now.


The Extreme Pro 128GB Micro SD card was available in a pair at a special sales event. I guess, at 30 USD a piece, I didn't pay too much. And yes, the second one goes into the Gopro.

If I get the additional storage, I'll at least be able to sporadically listen to some music, if the startup process doesn't take forever and I fall asleep before I can hit play. It should automatically start playing once it booted up.. lol


For the love of Say10, I cannot get the fugger to boot...
With the SD card inserted, the player will ALWAYS hang itself up during the database update.. Even after 30 Minutes, the screen is still alight and the cricling thing stuck..
If I remove the SD card, it boots just fine. Inserting the SD card then will trigger the Database update. From there, it will either complete the database update, but show the SD card as "NO FILE"... OR, it just hangs itself once more.
I'm seriously tempted to crush the fugging piece of crap with a rock!

Just my humble opinion, I think you may have a defective unit. Can you send this back to Cowon or a local distributor/Agent?
They may be able to help though Cowon isn't known for their speedy customer service, they still get the job done.
Database update at best, even for large libraries should only take up to 30 Seconds though it tends to average 10 Seconds.

Also, what file format are you using exactly as sometimes Cowon DAPs, especially the PD Series don't like certain formats for various reasons or if the original source recording isn't done well , even if they're listed on the Spec Sheet so I suggest you check how your PD2 handles mp3, FLAC, Ogg just to be sure.

I have both the PD & PD2 for a long time, I have had unrelated issues with the PD more than the PD2 so as stated, something may be wrong with your unit overall.

Regardless, as also mentioned, as far as I can tell, without opening up either PD casing, the single ended output seems wired balanced (2 distinct channels) which is interesting as it is uncommon in most single ended circuit design.

i'm curious what makes you think this is the case. i have tried connecting a balanced cable to the 3.5mm output, but i'm not getting the typical 6db volume increase you get from the 2.5mm balanced output, nor does it show the balanced connection indicator (a letter "B" on the headphone/earphone icon).

Not sure what you're referring to exactly or why you think any db increase is an indication of a balanced signal.
As a general rule, balanced audio signals tend just to be stronger more than any other factor with the most obvious being lower noise floor & more often than not quieter overall.
Very few gear, for me at any rate, have much identifiable difference...I say this as I use balanced gear everyday though this is usually XLR or aforementioned 3.5 mm Balanced, I don't like 2.5 for various reasons.
Personally & subjectively, regardless of what connection used, I only get a volume &/or sound level increase if said volume was set higher than the other.
The 3.5 mm head out on the D2 is a single head out so I would be surprised if a Cowon Engineer bothered to program a B icon.
As a final note, I may not have implictly stated in my previous post, I use 3.5 balanced for convenience & that stronger signal, otherwise, I couldn't care less though if I had a second choice for balanced connector other than XLR, it would be pentaconn.

ok, let me backtrack a bit and first ask what you mean when you say that "the single ended output seems wired balanced"? it seems like a contradictory statement. or are you just saying that it "sounds" balanced?

as for those 6db, balanced output is typically 6db louder. i'm not sure if that's necessarily true for all players, but it certainly holds for the PD2. if you compare output volumes from the 3.5mm output and the 2.5mm output at the same numerical volume setting, you'll find that the 2.5mm output is notably louder. that difference persists even if i connect to the 3.5mm output with a balanced cable. this to me strongly suggests that the 3.5mm output is a regular single-ended (non-balanced) output. if you think otherwise then i'm curious to learn why.
