What about the tralucent? I owned the first model and people thought that was nuetral. I found it thin and top heavy. It's possible I didn't have a good seal.

  If you heard the UERM, some people seem to find them comparable, but I haven't heard the UERM.

 
Bass and mids are somewhat comparable to the UERM, but treble is definitely different. The UERM's is brighter and peakier, with more sparkle. The P8's is more laid-back and smoother.

I was going to pick up the Earsonics S-EM9 but changed my mind after seeing reviews for the Prophile-8. Though will have to wait until mid Jan as it's sold out in the UK and Europe at the moment. I haven't had a universal for a couple of years after having CIEMs but it looks like a good time to give them a go again.

S-EM9 and P8 are different beasts. It depends if you want as close to neutral as possible while retaining musicality or a more well balanced signature that gives great musicality. While P8 has a slight but definite edge technically, some might prefer S-EM9.

Thanks, I do like the sound of balanced but musical. I think another thing that's stopping me from going for the S-EM9 is the fit. A lot of the reviews mention it being quite shallow and having to experiment with different tips. Whereas the Prophile-8 sounds perfect.
 
For the first time in my life I think I'll be waiting for the Prophile-8 to come back in stock instead of giving into the urge to buy something else. I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl with the WM1A.

Nope, they just sold out very quickly before Xmas and are only just starting to be restocked in stores.

How bright are the Prophile 8 ?. Reading reviews and this tread gives different impressions. I have the Solar and do not consider this to be on the warm side. And the sparkle treble bothers me sometimes. Anyone have both or heard both?

I have heard both and they are very different signatures.
 
The Solars are more V shaped whereas the 8s are more neutral.
