FYI the original firmware is on the official hiby site.

Firmware is 1.00_20240327-1125

You can also apply an update from the internal software and don't have to apply it via the recovery menu.

https://store.hiby.com/apps/help-center#hc-r4-v10-firmware-file

Firmware file update method: Copy the zip file to R4I's internal storage -> Go to Settings -> System -> Systems update ->Select "Local Updates" from the 3 small menus in the upper right corner -> Select the zip file you copied to the internal storage and update.

Can Hiby R4 be used as a DAC and bypass the battery?
When you connect the R4 to an audio source and select the connection type via the item in the pulldown menu, there should be an option for Audio In with charging and an option for Audio In without.

Update:

You can kind of? It always draws power off the battery there is no desktop mode. You can turn off charging but then it draws power from the battery. You can have set to constantly charge as well. These are the only two options. If your looking for a desktop mode this does not have it. I have a few daps without it and they are just fine. I just make sure I'm not charging when its at 100% and try not to let them drain to 0. Just unplug when not in use and fully charged.

Sorry for the wrong answer given earlier.

Still waiting for my unit to arrive, but apparently the output impedances of R4's 3.5mm and 4.4mm output are 1Ω and 2Ω respectively, which explains the noise problem on balanced output when paired with sensitive IEMs like Andromeda. Kinda worrying since I mainly use Softears Volume lately, but we'll see. If the worst comes to the worst, I'll just use it on its stock unbalanced cable, I guess.

For those people wanting to charge the battery to 80% I have a simple solution. Take the battery out and replace it with a battery that has 80% of the capacity of the original then its guaranteed to always charge to 80%.
Good one !!!:beerchug::beerchug::beerchug:

That being said… if one is willing to procure a second battery to replace the original, then one should not worry about all of these questions: just replace the battery when it’s dead [issue solved] :ksc75smile:

I know it’s far from a “main use case” for this player, but I was testing Bluetooth adapters recently. I found the KZ AZ09 works great with the R4, but the TRN BT20 Pro sound absolutely awful. Only reasoning I can think is Bluetooth 5.2 in the KZ and 5.3 in the TRN. Any Android people have any explanation there? It’s like… really terrible. Anyone would notice a difference, not just someone trying to nitpick.

Also, another thing: I’m playing around with poweramp to look up presets, then move them natively to the HiBy Music app when I find one I like for my headphones. I noticed that it doesn’t seem to be a 1 to 1 in sound when moving presets on the 10 band EQ over. Any reasoning for that?

You also try the wavelet app. You can search auto eq for your specific headphone in its database.
