Hello does anyone use YouTube Premium to watch videos or listen to them while in the background and screen turned off on the R4? If so, any battery insights or how warm the device gets with this task they can share? Also, any insights compared to the R5G2 with this task will be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello to all got my R4 yesterday and it heats up to the point that I can’t even hold with my hand , what do you suggest I do?
I suggest PMing @Joe Bloggs to get a replacement. He told us it was confirmed by HiBy headquarters that the heating issue was an amp issue, and that units affected by it need a replacement.

So, going through this thread, I found out that DSD and PCM have different signal path and DSD tuning is more analogue.
Since this is an Android Player, have anyone tried Onkyo HF Player?
It had a setting which converted everything to DSD. Now on a phone, this was available only to external dacs. But, since this is a DAP, will it be possible to exploit this feature to access the DSD signal path? If anyone can try it, that would be nice.

I don't have the DAP, but is seriously considering it.

Is it possible to manually install firmware updates on Hiby DAP's.

I was just on the hiby site and in the download section it appears the only way to do a firmware update on the R4 and most other DAP's is via wifi. I don't have access to wifi right now due to technical issues only have an ethernet connection. If I buy this DAP will I not be able to update the firmware? If not this is a no go for me for this or any other Hiby DAP. Is there no place to manually download the firmware updates?

Firmware updates will be made available on Google drive, already are for other devices for which there have been updates.

Got my R4 today, and unfortunately it stopped working after about 15 minutes. Went to take the case off to load some more music on the SD card, and in the process of removing the case it began to complain about "Digital Audio Locked", an attempted reboot later (because no key combo seemed to disable it) and I now have a shiny brick and it won't even boot into recovery mode.
Has anyone else had this happen or know what I did wrong?
Hi there,

The original "digital audio locked" message would have been simply a combination of you having removed the connected headphones by accident / by intention and the device not allowing *changes to volume* *of the digital audio output* (coaxial digital, which is the output, when nothing is connected (you can connect an adapter cable at the USB port and get the coaxial signal) (which can be changed in settings, but that's a story for another day)

So that wasn't anything alarming.

We have moved well past this point obviously.

In the dm you reported having "tried every key combo". Did any of these combos lead to the device rebooting or did it stay in Android throughout (with that message)?

What key combos did you try and what key combo did you use to try to reboot the device that led to it no longer booting?

If there is no hardware issue, holding the "next track" button together with the power button for 15s should reboot the unit normally.

*next track being the button below the play button

A general note regarding the temperature 😅

Any user experiencing what they regard as abnormal heat from their new R4 is encouraged to contact hello@hiby.com regarding the issue.

The player *does* have a Class A amplifier inside, which generates significant heat. Our customer service will guide affected users through test(s) to determine whether the heat they experience is normal, or abnormal. We are aware of a few malfunctioning units that are outputting abnormal amounts of heat*, so this is by no means a test for shrugging users off 😅 Rather a few simple test(s) to check that we don't actually have a case of over-nervous user on our hands 😅😅😅.

Once the heating is determined to be abnormal, you will be given instructions for shipping the device back to us for replacement, and you will be reimbursed for this shipment.

*or rather, we should say we are aware that there is a possibility that an improperly assembled may be constructed in such a way as to have an overheating issue (we are not aware of any particular batches of units shipped overseas that are especially likely to actually suffer from this); not that any number of units were knowingly shipped out having this issue.

Best regards,
Joseph Yeung

Can you explain how this works to a newby? If I click on a firmware update on the Hiby site for the R5 gen2 V1.30 for example it only shows the Change Log but no link to the firmware file. This would be my first full android and Hiby DAP which will require more updates than I am use to and I would like to be comfortable with the manual firmware install process.

I was able to manually download the latest Shanling M5 Ultra V2.0 firmware as a test very easily by a direct link to the firmware file from Shanling.

I like to test the process with every DAP I am considering buying to make sure it is an easy process. I frequently worked in client locations where wifi was not available or not allowed for security reasons and got use to and comfortable with manually updating firmware.

Thanks for the information, will they ever be linked on the Hiby site under Downloads? It seems like a logical place given the Changelog for the firmware updates are listed their.
