My 1 week old unit never had any instance where it would get hot to the touch and I've loaded all sorts of music into it mostly flac, wav, and dsd. I also have 3 plug ins applied. No issue. What's with all the fuss about a couple units heating up and turning this into a molehill?

Here's my set up. Tidal at max, mseb analog tuning, and 3 plug-ins. Been playing for hours now and my unit is just warm like a gaming phone that's been played for an hour. Not that warm.

I think if @Joe Bloggs confirmed an issue, there probably is one, but hopefully isolated to a few units. I'm sure HiBy will take care of it quickly and fuss-free.

Headquarters confirms that this is an amp issue for which the unit needs to be replaced, regardless of the plugins. You may confirm by playing with headphones disconnected.

This is based on the symptoms described only.
Hey Joe, I’ll be PMing you shortly with the serial as well with as I’m having the same issue as @JimiMack

Reporting back, I've had mine streaming in high gain, with plugins enabled, WHILE CHARGING for the last hour or so, and while it's moderately warm, it's nowhere near hot. Seems mine is working as intended.
Thanks for checking. Looks like it's just me and JimiMack having the heat/amp issues at the moment. Hopefully ours get replaced quickly and the replacement units are in good working order.

Hi guys,

I just bought one R4. I just dicovered (my mistake) the R4 doesn't have a dedicated line out. I'm a little bit confused about that. Can I use it as a mp3 player in my home hifi without a line out? My former player was a FIIO X3 first generations. It worked perfectly as home hifi media player. Wrong choice R4? Better R6III? Thanks in advance. Enrico

Hi all,
I received my unit today and have inserted an micro SD card
Do I need to format?
There is two options there - format and format as internal

Which if any should I do, I think it's working as it is , the device seems to see the card and is reporting accurate storage space etc
Thanks for any help

Won't be an issue at all. Just connect your R4 using the headphone out (either 3.5mm or 4.4mm) to the line-in on your amp, and away you go. Quality will be more than fine. You'll be able to adjust volume with both the R4 and amp.
