The first headphones I got and my current ones are the Sony Mdrxb500s these are great for like electronic and rap bass heavy stuff but I want to get some more headphones for listening to things like Hard rock Prog rock and bands like Tool
My price range is $80 - $130

How is the sound on the DT770? They look pretty good and a bit closer to my price range than the others

Heya,

The DT770 is fantastic. Slightly bright, good bass, not over the top, great sound stage, very comfortable. It has that good thump and slight sparkle that just makes things like Opeth, In Flames, Tool, etc, sound absolutely wonderful.

Some alternatives: Brainwavz HM5, Ultrasone HFI 580, AudioTechnica A900X.

Very best,

I'd go the HFI-580 route. They are good for fast paced music.

I think I am gonna choose between the DT770s and the HM5s

What source(s) are you plugging the headphones into?

I just listened to my DT770 Pro 80-Ohm and the Brainwavz HM5, the HM5 has better vocals and a very clear sound.
The DT770 80-Ohm is more bassy & more comfortable to wear.
I would say go for the DT770 with their nice Velour ear pads.

My computer's onboard sound but I have been thinking about getting a sound card if I am just using headphones should I look into something different?

Asus Xonar DG sound card, $20-$30.

bit more the original budget but worth it

Sometimes there are some good deals on used DT770 80-Ohm, on eBay.
