Ill be spending about $100 - $250 on a pair of new headphones.
I'm looking for something with lots of bass and decent mids and highs.
I would also like a cheap amp for about >$50.
Any thoughts?

I was actually looking at what exactly you told me to get.
Have you owned or tried a pair before?

Also thanks for the welcome to the forum. I like the forums and will probably frequent them from now on.

Not owned to be honest, but had the chances to use my friend's.
The bass response is deep, and the details are always present on music. Some people use them for mixing/monitoring. They are well regarded here.

The 780s are within your price range and go for $155 on ebay. They're great stock, but if you do a search, you'll see that these headphones really come alive with a simple recable which doesn't have to cost a lot if you do it yourself. I haven't heard the m50s, but I am under the impression that they are a step below the 780s, and perhaps 2 steps below after a recable.

Yup, the 780s are decent 'phones but are very uncomfortable for most people.

The comfort does get better with time though. Most of the comfort issues are a result of the headband's tight clamp. A lot of people solve that issue by stretching the headphones out overnight, using pillows or boxes to stretch them apart. I don't have any comfort issues myself, but I have a skinny head
