NEW! Fostex TH610 Premium Reference Closed-Back Headphones
Sep 24, 2022 at 3:16 AM Post #946 of 974
You guys remember this? The open back version of TH610 from a few years ago that did not get released.
Looks like the new Meze 109 Pro is becoming a success and I hope that prompts Fostex to release this.
I have the TH909 and I think Fostex knows a thing or two about "opening" up a closed back.

I remember this one! Who knows, maybe one day Fostex will do something with it :)

Same thing here with a chipped cup. I didn't know the surface was so fragile. I guess, it's because of the cable that accidentally bumped the cup with its connector. The hit was not strong, just barely touched it. I didn't even pay attention until I saw the mark. The surface is extremely fragile. Are you sure it's real wood? Judging by this white mark, the wood does not look real because it is too white. I'm not sure if wood stain will help if it's not real wood.
Well it is wood, you can always fix it :)
I would personally sand it all a little bit and try some good hardwood wax or oil.
I have recently bought myself a pair and wanted to make it darker. I have used 3 coats of OSMO 3169 wax (still experimenting) and so far it looks like that :) what do you guys think?

BTW I REALLY like the sound of them :) good headphones for sure!

They look great with wax, better than original imo.

Is there any deep pads that work with TH610?

I liked the sound but my ears touch the inside. Might buy it again if there's a good pad that's deeper, that works without changing the sound to much.

ZMF Ori (possibly hybrid, if wanting to avoid too much bass emphasis vs original balanced signature of 610) is one, as are the protein leather or alcantara versions of the Yaxi pads for TH610/900. I personally enjoy the ZMF Eikon (lambskin), but those are arguably shallower if slightly wider and more “comfy” compared to the (still nice) original pads. As the Eikons are a wider pad at 105mm+, I would suggest adding a self-cut ring of thick paper or plastic sheet to the original pad-mounting plate to limit sliding movement of the mounted pads (double-sided tape works, but make sure to cut matching holes in the extender ring so that it doesn’t block the holes from the original). All of those seem like popular options for other kindred biodynamic driver models, but everyone seems to have a different favorite… if sticking close to the original, the internal ear hole dimensions, non-perforated surface, and depth/cushion compression properties are key points to consider trying to match.

Thanks, I have a search for them on the local market. 👍 Will take some time, but they will show up some Fostex is sold by som shops in Norway.

Any recommendations for a 6.5-7ft cable for my Fostex TH-610?

Just looking for it to end in a simple 3.5 with a screw on adapter. Being able to customize the split length would be nice (need it about 10.5 inches), I can live with a 4.4mm plug if necessary.

Colors that I would buy: Solid black, blue, grey, or red. Budget $70 + shipping

Virtually non-existent, what you're looking for. All the decent cables of that length start from $100 and more. No screw on adapters. Only hard wired connectors except Hart Audio Cables that have split design and you'll have to buy additional interconnects separately. Otherwise buy a 4.4 cable and use your own adapters like ddHiFi DJ44C if you want to connect to a 3.5 mm socket. Since Hart Audio Cables can only be 4.5 ft long, the other options left are:
Periapt
Audiophile Ninja
OIDIO Mongrel Cable
Sky Audio Cables
I really don't know if there is anything like a 7ft TH610 cable that would cost $70. A standard stock unbalanced cable already costs $250-280.

Hart can do exactly what I want at 6-7 ft for $105 + shipping but its a little out of my budget right now. Maybe there are independent or oversea cable makers that are closer to the $80 price point.

Yep, my bad. Good that you've found it. I just didn't have enough time to explore their website. Anyways, there are no indie manufacturers that I know of who would make it for less. As I said, it's minimum $100+ everywhere.

EDIT: Since you mentioned a 4.4 connector as an alternative for your search it probably means that you either have balanced gear or relevant SE adapters. I don't understand why you'd want to prioritize a 3.5 mm as your primary option. It would limit your perspective to using single ended outputs only. Whereas with a 4.4 mm you could utilize both balanced and SE outputs (via adapter). This configuration is still portable enough compared to a quarter jack on the stock cable. Even if you don't have any balanced gear, you might as well buy it in future - and then you'll have a cable handy for that. For now you already have a 4.4 to 3.5 mm adapter, right? Otherwise, you'll have to spend another $100 for an additional cable in future. You wouldn't want that, would you?

Yeah I got that wrong, 1/4inch jack on my amp. 6.35 mm. Been out of the headphone game for two years, just getting back in.

Found some solid cables for cheap:

NewFantasia 6N OCC Copper Silver Plated Upgrade Audio Cable Compatible with Fostex TH-900 MKII, TH610, TH900 MK2 Premium Headphones Cable. - $48
NewFantasia Replacement Audio Upgrade Cable Compatible with Fostex TH-900 MKII, TH610, TH900 MK2 Premium Headphones with 6.35mm Adapter - $19

Both come in at 6.6ft, with 3.5mm to 6.35mm screw-in adapters, and an 11.5 inch split. Sound great, dont catch the desk or have crazy microphonics. 6N OCC Walnut matches the cans perfectly. Cheaper cable is also available in 1.4ft and 9.9 ft
