New Flagship from Audio-Technica: ATH-W3000ANV, 50th Anniversary Headphones

Mine arrived today as well & only listened briefly to it but I like the sound already. I thought the T5p was the most detailed set of cans I've listened to (not saying too much though as I haven't heard many of the high end phones :p) but these may give it a run for the money. Bass impact is better than the T5p but the T5p is known to be anemic on the low end. There's a little bit of noticeable sibilance in the highs that i hope will wear off with burn in. I have a custom equalizer setting for the T5p that's W-shaped but these may only need a boost in the lower region to sound great. Will try to post some pics later when the kids are in bed.

Can someone post a pic of the w3000anv and the w1000x side by side.

I will do that when I get them... ;D I have my camera ready.

And kenshin27, how would you compare these to ATH-W1000X?

I am shocked that people find these to be bass light. My pair sounds very bassy to the point of being slightly boomy.

Actually, after my several hours of burn-in, the W3000ANV have seemed to have gotten warmer. It's a bit warmer sounding than my Stax O2 (through SRM-323s), but not as warm as my W11R. My W11R still has a bit better extension in the sub-bass region.

Detail-wise, I think the W3000ANV is probably on par with my W11R, maybe a bit smoother and maybe a bit less congested. Comparing the W3000ANV with the W11R is not really that substantial. They are good enough that I will have to sell one eventually, but I'll wait to do that which is most likely after people start getting their amps. =) My W11R has a better fit, but it's an ugly duckling next to the W3000ANV.

So you do feel they could be special?

Yes yes yes.

The more I listen to the W3000ANV, the more I'm in love with it. It sounds more romantic than the W11R. It's really beautiful sounding. Very, very lush, intimate, and romantic sound. Even rock music with a good singer will make you fall in love and Les Pauls sound powerful and full as they should unlike certain V-shaped "rock" headphones.

I haven't heard the W11R and W10LTD yet, and my memory on the W2002 is a bit foggy, but I'd personally rank the woodies I've listened to as:

W2002 --> W10VTG --> W5000 --> W1000X --> W100 --> W11JPN --> W1000

Depending on my mood, I might rank the W100 above the W1000X. Allegedly Audio-Technica has two different versions of the drivers, and some W100s don't sound very good while others sound quite good. I must have lucked out and gotten the better version.

As for the W3000ANV, from what I've heard thus far, I'd say it may very well be at the top of the list as AT's overall best woody so far imo. Still a bit too early to tell though, and I need to spend more time with the W2002.

Obviously all this is my subjective take on the matter.
