New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

I use Meze 99C cables for T5p and Amiron. Had no idea the included cable is a piece of crap but the Meze 99C cables just does the job perfectly. Cheaper too than Beyer's cables. Not sure if it's a waste of effort to send it to them again but I hear no difference between Meze's and stock cable.

The T5p v1 cable is not detachable. Beyerdynamic do not charge a lot to replace the cable...but the cable they use is not very good.

I agree. The stock cables on the T5p (2nd Gen) aren't really pliable; they are quite stiff, as far as cables go. As with most people (I suppose), a more pliant cable is preferred. I'll probably be replacing the stock cable soon.

No fitment or connection issues with the 99 Classics cables? That would sure make things easier on my wallet.

I'm glad my Amirons doesn't have p-leather earpads. The headband on the other hand... Not sure if the T5p.2 headband can be replaced by Amiron headband if it starts flaking.

As with all things Beyerdynamic they are interchangeable. You can also remove all padding from the steel skeleton and replace it with the button headband the pro's are equiped with, or with the custom pro/game headphones (tygr / mmx-300) velcro'd headbands: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/beyerdynamic-t1-1st-generation.906764/post-14955236

From my experience with both t5p and t5p 2. gen: The cable used for gen 1 is very poor while the quality of the gen 2 cable is very good it's not very suited for portable use.
The 1. gen cable has the same quality as those you find on €5 in ear buds.

It's been some time since I've tried a 1st Gen T5p, so I can't remember what its cable looks like. I've just done a Google search, however, and you're right, the cable looks thin and almost too delicate.

It's quite a contrast with the 2nd Gen's cable - it is thick and stiff. I don't mind thicker cables, to be honest, but it needs to be flexible. This can't really be said for the 2nd Gen cable, though. Anyway, I guess I'm just being nitpicky.

No you are not I always replace the cables by neotech OCC cables cause they are both high quality and very flexible.
The T5p cable is the same as the T1 cable and it's perfect for home usage. If you ever want a cable that screams to be replaced as soon as possible: buy Focal Stellia. The headphones are amazing but the cable ...

Lately I've been using the beyerdynamic cables again and they actually surprise me how they handle, having the channels next to each other is both a smart and silly move imo.

After 6 years or so (when I sent them in for repair) the cable has started to flake near the housing. Little pieces come off and I can see the wire beneath. The cables of all my other headphones are doing fine. My F1 and D2000, which are about as old as the T5p, do not need cable replacements.

Perhaps it is time to look for someone else for the recabling.

Any suggestions (in the U.S.)?

The wallet is reason number one haha. I also got them for my other headphones too. I don't have any issue.

I totally forgot the T5p.1 doesn't have detachable cable. Wow, my life has become so much easier with detachable cables! If they break, simple get a new cable.
If non-detachable break, you gotta send the whole thing :/ I still have the T5p.2 cable stored in a bag inside the T5p.2 hardcase

I wonder if the headband can be replaced by a Amiron Home headband. I have the toolset I think.

Yes, detachable cables are a godsend. Now, you won't be stuck with some awful, long, stock cables that you can't change, unless you mod your headphones. Denon D2000, I am looking at you.

I am going to have to mod my D2000 soon, since I've had enough of this loooong cable, and also because the strain relief on one of the cups has fallen off.

New pads, new cable. It'll be like getting a brand-new headphone!

So which pads did you get? I'm keeping the Ori pads on my D2000 and I'm buying a pair of ZMF suede pads (Ori or Universe) for the TH-X00.

I've found a local guy who does removable cable mods for some of the popular headphones, such as the Denon DX000 series. It costs about $100; I don't know if that's a reasonable price, though.

I've also decided to go with the Yaxi pads. I can get them locally, so I don't have to wait for a few weeks for shipping.
