New Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd generation

Thanks Timelord,

MMm I thought as much but did read on here somewhere that someone was looking into mods for reducing sound leakage on top of the pad change so wondered if there were any but as you say it would prob mess up the SQ which I like very much. Not a major problem for me, just curious if there was a solution as obv. the less sound leakage out, the better for my fellow commuters, not that I have had any complaints......

Anybody heard these along with DT1770 pro?

Yes. The T5p v2 is more airy, detailed and precise. Similar weight top-to-bottom. Just saw that you are in the UK. Would have invited you to come hear the difference for yourself...

I just acquired my new T-5p's a couple of weeks ago. I am getting use to them. However, I like the T-70p just as much and even find them more fun to listen to because of their brightness. However, I do appreciate the nice sounding T-5 second generation too. I also like the T-90, which I am told to like them, I would have to be over 60 and like tremble. OK! But I like them. I am going to get a pair of T-1 first gen. because I like that kind brightness.

Ok guys, ordered a pair from Thomann after finally selling my PM-2s. Sadly I didn't have a chance to audition them but after being thoroughly disappointed with planars, hopefully a high-end dynamic will satisfy my needs. Solid, good bass and energetic but smooth treble is all I need.

Now the wait for delivery begins...

You've got 30 days money back with Thomman which is a good thing. I think, from your previous posts, you would find DT1770 better match for your sound signature preferences than T5p, may be worth a try.

I considered it also, but I prefer T5P 2nd gen looks... I like pretty things.

Hmm based on reviews, I cancelled my order out of fear that it might be too analytical/bass-light for me. I'm between Fostex TH-610 and LCD-2F 2016 revision.

I had TH900. I loved its bass. I didn't think it was boomy, it was just right for EDM and pop music. However, treble was tizzy and annoying so I returned it.

FYI - I posted this in one of the Audeze threads, comparing the T5P to the Audeze LCD2F (2016 version):

I really like both but if I had to pick one for pure sound, I'd go LCD-2F.

T5P is partially closed so you get some isolation.  Both phones are very well balanced without being boring. Both have a nice sparkle in the treble but not harsh, in my opinion.  T5P has more mid bass so it gives it nice impact but doesn't go as deep as the LCD2F.  The LCD2F bass makes me smile.  I used to have the HiFiman HE400 and really missed that ortho bass at times.  T5P is easier to drive and also more comfortable.  LCD2F has better instrument separation and more resolving.  (Not that the T5P is lacking, the LCD2 is just amazing in those areas).  Sound stage is a dead heat.  T5P probably a bit wider, LCD2F maybe a bit deeper.

After a long week of listing to the Alpha pad modded T5P Gen 1, my desire for the Gen 2 has decreased significantly. While I am interested in the warmer, more low end of the Gen 2, I am also concerned about losing the details on the high end which I find near perfect for my tastes on the Gen 1. I plan to audition anyway at the next SF meet. BTW, I check with a US authorized service center about getting replacement Gen 2 pads and here is the part number - 916.633 and priced at $39.50 from fullcompass.com. This is a lot cheaper than the original Gen 1 lambskin pads which sold for over $200. But still, it seems Alpha pads are better than both if the fit of the Beyer pads is not perfect for your head shape. In my case I always suspected a leakage in the lower back of the Beyer pads and the Alpha pads completely resolved that.

Helpful info, thanks

After lots of reading about and some listening to alternatives, I've concluded that nothing else will suit me like the T5p.

Just as I reached that conclusion the cheapest price I had found jumped significantly, so I'm back in the waiting game

I'm going to order the Alpha pads in the meantime though. Leakage is my main concern and I know the vent port is main culprit but if the pads help then that's good.

I also like that they turn Beyer's perfectly crafted style statement into a badass audiophile hybrid

I had originally taken the pads off of my Alpha Prime to test the T5p and I liked what I heard. I put the pads back on the Alpha Prime and placed an order for the pads with Mr. Speakers this past Sunday. I got the pads yesterday and I just put them on. The new pads needed a bit more convincing to get on since they haven't been exercised before.

Listening to them now as I type, they sound great. The sub bass and especially the mid bass have substantial gains. This mod is a keeper.

Coincidentally, the new Alpha pads still keep everything in the sheep family.
