Probably. Different sources of info. Be nice if instead of popping his head in here to say " favorite closed back headphone ever!" Then telling us to buy the! Through the woo shop he'd chime in a little on our questions lol

Hey man, I'm just going off what the video says at about the 45 sec mark

I know, didn't want to sound rude. Sorry if I did.
The 'sorry' in my other post should mean 'I would have preferred leather but unfortunately it is not.' But I have to admit that it feels very good.

I'm sure these feel comfortable either way. Always nice when a company refines their product enough to make it top notch. I just want to hear these ! Still trying to figure out what's going to be a good pairing for them. I'll try them on my setup with preachtre dac*it and Asgard. If I don't like the results I'm considering AlO CDM, don't remember the model but a nice portable matrix, violectroc v800\v200 setup, wa7 fireflies or mjolnir 2 with balanced dac.

Ya, I noticed that too.

I haven't spent too much time with closed back headphones. Is this the reason my 1770 leaked sound? I used the velour pads.

Could be. I use the velour with my dt1770 too, I don't find they leak more than the pleather. But, yes, usually pleather/leather isolate better and provide better seal for bass.

Hey bavinck, the only Beyer I ever sat down with was a t1 a couple times and I have sat down with the alpha primes a couple times too. Do you still find your 880s to be a good musical can compared to the primes?

T5p 2nd gen

Already got 75hrs of burn in, and starting a more critical listening now...  So far I hear a very resolving dynamic sound with an excellent separation/layering and neutral tonality.  Detail retrieval is close to a micro-detail level yet not grainy or analytically-harsh. Low end extends down to sub-bass (nice quality texture with a rather polite quantity), and a tight articulate mid-bass punch with a fast attack, but not as much slam.  Bass is well controlled, no spillage into lower mids, accurate, and balanced.  Lower mids have a nice body which adds just a touch of warmth to the sound.  Upper mids are leaning more toward smoother analytical level (the best of both worlds), not too bright or too harsh.  I'm very impressed with clarity and details in vocals (both male and female) with an organic hint of smoothness.  There is absolutely no sibilance or metallic sheen.  Treble has a good extension, a nice detailed sparkle, crisp definition, zero piercing or offending frequencies, and a polite level of airiness.  Definitely great for an extended non-fatigue listening sessions.

Soundtsage is 3D holographic, the expansion is way above average for a closed back headphones in all 3 directions (width/depth/height).  Imaging literally has 3D placement of instruments and vocals with an excellent separation and layering effect.  The angled Tesla drivers create like a virtual surround space, quite unreal for closed back headphones.

Sound isolation is good, not the greatest.  I actually improved it a bit by bending the headband more to create a better clamping force.  Unfortunately, sound leakage is real and I wouldn't recommend you taking these to your local library.  It actually failed a "wife" test sitting next to my better half on the couch :)  Obviously, these are not open back or semi-open back, and it becomes less noticeable 5-6ft away, but closer and you will hear them.  I tried pressing earcups with my hands, assuming maybe it's a leakage due to pleather earpads - still the same.  I'm pretty sure the sound is leaking from two large (5mm) vents, one on each earcup next to the pivoting hinge where the part of the yoke connects on the back.  By taping it over, I noticed a slight reduction in sound leakage.

I love the fact that cable is removable.  The stock cable is high quality, but contributes to a noticeable microphonics due to its textile coating rubbing against my cloth.  I have TWag v3 modular cable, and already got extension for T5p 2nd (connectors are just regular 3.5mm TRS), and I have to say that retrieval of details scaled up with this pure silver cable, sound became a little brighter and more analytical, and in some songs it even got closer to sibilance threshold.  If you want more analytical crispier sound - pure silver cable does wonders, but if you prefer a little smother and more organic tonality - stay with a stock OCC copper cable (7N purity).

In terms of pair-up with different sources, you can drive T5p 2nd from any source with authority!  This is a truly portable headphones.  It paired up great with PAW Gold and X7, more analytical bright sound.  With L5 Pro the sound is very detailed with a warmer low end and more bass slam.  Sounds great with both X5ii and X3ii, though sound was a little less dynamic and soundstage shrunk a bit.  I also enjoyed how it paired up with my Galaxy Note 4, though sound was a bit warmer and less resolving, but with HA-2 (in high gain) it scales up significantly with a smoother detailed sound.  As a matter of fact, Note 4 + HA-2 and L5 Pro where two of my favorite pair ups.  Also, T5p 2nd is not just great for a mobile pair up, it's actually very comfortable to wear on the go.  Earcups are not "earmuffs" huge, very comfortable, and don't have in-your-face exotic look.  Because they don't fold or rotate, they are not as comfortable to wear around your neck, but comfortable to wear on your head.  I just had them on for over an hour without a break, and my ears still feel cool.

So far I'm VERY impressed!!!  Full review to follow soon!

Very different sounding headphones. The primes are clear, detailed, excellent slam, good extension but sound more closed in, darker and required a powerful amp for best results. The dt880s are much more airy and open sounding, more detailed, better treble extension, less slam and more neutral overall. Dt880s are not as source picky as they are much easier to drive well. Both totally different, I enjoy them both very much.

Twister6, thanks for the impressions. Sounds exactly like what I want, I already ordered one from beyerdynamic. Sucks regarding the sound leakage. I will have to look at my dt1770 to see if it has similar vents. I have used those in my office with no complaints so maybe if they are vented too the t5p won't be an issue. The dt1770 are super duper impressing me so my expectations are high for these.
