I knew many will not be able to believe in first go, mojo is highly praised so is the burson and ican(though not on the same league like mojo) , I will not say anything better try to listen the same setup's you will best come to know
The vocals the warmness the sep. The realism, All things ...
Same things goes for dt1990 pairing which was a blast on mojo
Note : we had fiio alpen gen1 which is more on the warmer side than current fiio alpen 2

And that for "frustration free" packaging which could mean any number of things in terms of what you get and in what condition you get it in (the OEM box is as frustration-free as it gets... !!!) I actually held off on ordering them (at GBP 682) because of this frustration-free business. FWIW, I have both a UK and a DE account and I jockey back n forth based on Amazon's price and (of course) the FX. In almost everything audiophile you're better off with UK but in the case of Beyerdynamic, I've seen better prices at DE - even with the current low value of the GBP. For example, the T1.2 is currently GBP 780 and EUR 890 which is parity if I take 1.15 for FX rate (1.12 +fees).
 
 

More on the synergy side , we had a meet where we had T5p gen 2 and bunch of dac amps - mojo, burson soloist , fiio alpen n ifi ican. And the best synergy T5p's were having was with alpen...

If I can manage, I might try to pick one up. Unfortunately your subsequent post recommends to go with the 1st gen so results with the 2nd Gen may vary... .
 
 

Speaking of "clamping", the T5p.2s sit quite comfortably on my head and I use them while simply chilling on my couch as well as when working at my workstation. HOWEVER... the moment I start moving my head up / down too quickly they have a tendency to react to gravity and start to slip downwards...

I have the T5P V1, and I wouldn't regard them to be that ' portable'. For a start, they don't fold, and I've had to result to shelling out yet again for the official Beyer black hard case that originally came with the T90 anniversary's ...
As to the fit, they are fine if you sort still on a train, in a cafe etc. Pretty useless of you want to walk with them, as they keep falling off my head. They just don't clamp tight enough, which also affects the level of sound isolation when on a noisy train etc. ...

 

If you find the clamping force not enough, you can always adjust the curve of the headband by gently pushing it inwards to be more of a "U" shape. Mine came new in the box with the headband more open, and 1) it was not clamping enough; 2) the headband was more like "resting" on the top of my head and it made my head ache after only half an hour of listening, until I did this adjustment and the curve of the headband now follows roughly the contour of my head, which made it comfortable enough to wear on a long haul 12-hour flight.

I had my doubts and thought best to ask. Fortunately for my (current) purposes, I don't need that level of isolation nor do they hurt. I may eventually give your proposal a try but the trick is to aim for a "U" and not accidentally turn it into a "V"... So a little experience is needed to "properly" bend them and I'm a bit reserved as they are still too new for such experimentation...

 
 

If only we had the Mojo's performance available in a Dragonfly-sized body! But alas... I'm even more torn apart now between the convenience of the Red and the quality of the Mojo!

So it's not just about finding the highest resolution DAC/Amp one can find for one's budget but also what kind of resolution? ... Frankly, I splurged on the T5p.2 (spending $950 in my country hurts one's wallet as much as $3700 in the USA) so that I didn't to carry an additional device apart from my iPhone to enjoy my music with a fair amount of realistic detail ...

 
I have to clarify that while the T5p.2s sound better with the Mojo (than with the AK320 or Dragonfly Red), we are talking about a slight increase in "air" and just a little less treble roll-off. Is that worth the €600 and the need to lug additional weight? Only you can decide. In terms of driving the T5p.2s directly from a smartphone, chances are we are again talking about slight losses (maybe in pace, impact, etc.) given that the T5p.2s are relatively easy to drive. My recommendation to you before you put down more of your hard-earned $ is to try to collect enough opinions from other iPhone owners... .

  Despite buying the Elear's and P9s (which are going back, way too bassy) recently, I was still getting drawn towards the T5P.2's for some reason.  I finally got a pair today and can see why I was drawn to them, they are wonderful sounding cans.  I'm using them with my Plenue S with a silver balanced cable and to me, they outclass the Elear's using the same. The Elear's are no slouch but the T5P.2's have a little more clarity, better soundstage and imaging too. I think my Elear's will be going up for sale. Superb!

Anyone else wondering why measurements and reviews from venerable and prolific headphone veterans (InnerFidelity etc.) are missing for this particular pair of headphones?

Looks like Brent Butterworth has some measurements posted. Can't be certain they are the gen 2 though, since he doesn't seem to explicitly mention that. Can anyone make sense of these?

Considering the date the measurements were taken (1st Oct '16), I would imagine they are the 2nd gens, but there is no guarantee. It's hard (for me) to extrapolate data from the FR graphs that will support Beyerdynamic's "Sound Tuning" changes to the 2nd gen:

Looking at the slight bass boost could suggest either model but in my own experience the .2s favor the lower frequencies and fortunately in a very accurate manner (not boomy / bloated as many suggested was an issue with the 1st gens). On the other hand, I cannot detect any brightness so this 8K spike is a surprise to me... (then again, I'm getting old... lol). I would be curious if any of you can confirm the spike with your 2nd gens.... .

I like the fact that they are relatively immune to source impedance (so if your DAC / DAP is >4ohms you should still be ok) and the impedance is pretty stable throughout the frequency spectrum.

I stand corrected... ! I forgot that I can get a good idea of the "stability" of a single, constant-amplitude tone as it sweeps across the frequency spectrum (40-19KHz). This, thanks to the demag track found on the Sheffield/XLO Test & Burn-In CD
What I heard is the tone swing over to the right @~5K, then swing to the left @~5.5K, back to center @~6.5K and over to the left for 7~9K.
Not that his graph depicts a L-R swing but it does show dips and spikes of 10dB at 5, 8 and 9K which will for sure influence the tone.
 
FWIW, this "swing" happens to my other HPs and IEMs - just at different frequencies and with different apparent intensities. I of course did the test with two different DACs to rule out any possible influence of their own in the signal path.

I don't think I'm a treble head (well, maybe I am) but I just can't put up with the excessive mid bass which muddies music I'm listening to, mostly classical. The so called fun sound signature is not fun for me at all. Yet again I auditioned gen 1 and am seriously considering buying them now, btw I don’t find gen 1 lacking in bass. The only issue with the original T5p, if you could call it a problem, most stuff on youtube doesn’t sound good while it is quite bearable with my B&O H6 connected directly to iphone.

Without listening in depth I'd say I even prefer the T5p2 over the T1.2 as it has nicer sparkle in the treble and deeper reaching bass thats a bit more prominent (which bodes well with my headphone-preferred genres, i.e. various electronica). I sold my old T5p some weeks ago, so I'd rather not try to go into any detailed comparison, but the new T5p is much more balanced with more even treble. So if the old one might present details very up front, the new one is maybe a bit less obvious in that regard. But my feeling is that it does not loose out on details, they are just put back in their place within the whole spectrum. Very enjoyable I have to say, really getting the hang of it with more listening.

Thanks I've auditioned the original T5p many times now and liked them every time. What stopped me from buying were: fear of sibilance on certain tracks, although I never encountered it myself, the reports from others about the weak bass which simply isn't the case, the hope that second gen will be better + removable cables etc. I feel it's now time to trust my own ears for a change.
 
I actually enjoy some music with T5p.2 e.g. Vivaldi cello concertos, but when it comes to piano or vocals that's where things start getting muddy. I suppose just like with everything else it all comes down to personal preference. so there you go...

Headhone tuning is basically a bunch of crap. Beyer doesent tune anything really. Its all in the cup, pads and dampening.

Ive had the T1's and T70 and now T5P. The T5P second gen are too warm for sure. No beautiful treble or beyer house sound.

Now mine sound great though...because i took their silly rubber thing off the cup.
same cup as original T5P...even tesla 2 driver is same darn thing. Still a tesla and identical to the original except it has a rubber ring on the cup side of the driver.

That ring makes contact with a silly rubber thing on the cup....and thats why the sound is so far away and too warm.

I pryed the rubber thing off the cup and now it sounds great. Still a little warm because im not about to take the rubber ring off the driver, but way moree open and beautiful mids and treble.

The old T5P had the same cup, ridiculously bad cables and not as comfortable earpads.
With this simple mod you can have a T5P with similar sound to the firdt gen but with better bass( not to dark overall though), great cables and great pads!

Unfortunately theres nothing left to show. I broke off the little tab of rubber the tesla driver made contact with.

If you've never opened your beyer..then i understand it might be confusing.

On your T5P2nd gen:

NOTE: Dont have anything metal anywhere near the headphones when you do this mod! Even something small can get attracted and attached to the magnet on the driver and when you turn them on after you will blow the diaphram.

Remove earpad, pry off the circular plastic piece which holds the driver assembly in place. Its just a pressure fit which is designed to snap off.

Hold ear cup upwards while doing this ( you dont want the driver to slip out)

Turn the earcup upside-down with your hand ready to catch the driver assembly. Tap on the top of the cup gently and the assembly will fall into your hand.

Rest the assembly beside the cup on a flat surface. The wiring is tough and will be fine as long as you dont drop it.

Now you will see the inside of the cup and in the very middle is the little tab which you break off. Once its gone make sure theres no debris and re-assemble the cup. Both the assembly and the ring that holds it have a notch which allows it to fit into the cup only a certain way.

Its as simple as that. Not a mod really.
I think having the driver touch the earcup was a bad idea, really makes it too dark of a sound. Im pretty sure its the first beyer to try this sort of thing.

For me, there is no other house sound i love like beyerdynamic. I had to try this or I simply would have stopped listening to them. Ive had them for six months and it took that long to realize it was wasted money anyway because i didnt like them

Im happy now and ill never open them up again, lol

I suggest watching a youtube video of someone opening a t5p. Itll be the old model and you can see the empty cup with no rubber tab. And the old tesla driver with no rubber.

(In the above video the guy prys the assembly out of the cup. This isnt required as the assembly will fall into your hand doing it my way and there is no risk of using a screwdriver so close to the beautiful innards.
