New Beyerdynamic T1 (2nd Generation)

This hobby has changed a lot since I first joined it over 10 years ago.

Indeed!

No problem, always been a bit of a Beyer fan;

Same here. Way back (around 2007 or so) my choice of first serious cans narrowed down to Senns HD600, AKGs K701 and Beyers DT880. These Beyers won then.

Considering what you have right now, it was a loooooong road since then :D

Would have been good if I had kept it along with the JDS O2/ODAC that I bought new. That was my introduction to head-fi. :) It's a small footprint on my desk and a small dent in the wallet.

My first serious ($100+) headphone was the DT 990 Pro, may want to own one again for memories sake. Never owned a normal DT 880, had a black edition but that's tuned differently due to different pads and possibly damping, seems to measure more akin to the Amiron Home and T1.2, different sound of course due to different drivers. Since the T1.2 is discontinued, the closest headphone from Beyer to the T1.2 currently sound wise is the Amiron Home.

I don't notice much difference in the enclosure sealing of my T1.2 vs. T1.3. I know the 3 is supposed to be 'open' compared to 2 'semi,' but if anything the fine mesh on the 2 is less isolating.

The 1.3 and 5.3 are just reusing the 5.2p driver as far as I can tell, which is just fine by me (5.2p is great).

I found the gen 2 isolates more when the T1.3 doesn't have the driver cover. It's not much but I noticed the mesh inside the T1.2 enclosure stifles the air a bit vs the T1.3 which uses foam instead. The T1.3 and T5.3 driver is not the T5.2p driver, they're similar but they are different. But honestly no dynamic Beyer I know of is fully open.

The T1.3 isolates slightly less than I recall the T1.2 does with the T1.2's pads (only 1 pair of 1.2 pads and 1.3 pads so I can't direct compare), I can't really speak to the airflow.

The T1.3 and T5.3 driver is not the T5.2p driver.

Anyway, it's a shame we're not talking more about the classic trinity even if it's a bit off topic. Beyer DT880, Senn HD 600, AKG k701... the 2000s were simpler, maybe better times :)

This is the T1.3 which does seem different. Honestly it was a simpler time and honestly miss those days in the hobby.

Yeah, it would be good to have our first audio expenses nearby, just so we could get back to them every now and then for some extra perspective.

I did that with Senns HD600, even though these were my second serious cans. The pair at our office is there to stay no matter what :)

How many people have gone full circle with the Sennheiser HD600. I personally did like 880 more and was so sad when it died.

I think the Sennheiser chassis is the most perfect thing. But I like Tesla Driver better with its similar mids, but better extensions in both directions + angled.

I just don't have the 3d printing skills to transfer the driver and make the ultimate German can. :D

Yeah which is a reason why I think I should have the DT 990 Pro around again sometime see add perspective, I know the DT 990 Pro will still hold up with my current headphones and it has a sound signature none of my current headphone have so wouldn't be out of place.

Ah the HD 600, that was probably my favorite Sennheiser I owned. The HD 650/6XX was always love/hate with me and the HD 660 S was nice but the HD 600 held up the best with long-term ownership imho. Definitely understand why they are such beloved headphones. The R70x fills in the HD 6xx niche for me currently though but may revisit the HD 600 eventually as well.

The Telsa driver tuned like the HD 600 would be the ultimate German can. But there is one better driver than the Tesla from Beyer as we both know all too well.

I remember HD800 well too. Although the wow factor with these was there (spacious monsters), it's the HD600 I keep getting back to.

Yep, I tend to think that in the long run HD600 is the one that's been getting the most love of all Senns out there.
