So unfortunately, I recently found this forum and decided to purchase the AD700's.  I love them!

Naturally, now I'm looking for the next step. :)  I purchased a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770's just to see what a nice pair of closed cans sounds like.  The sound is great.  My problem is, apparently I'm a little sensitive.  The DT770's headband bothers me after a short period of time.

I mostly use the headphones for gaming.  Probably something liket this; 80% gaming, 10% music, 10% movies.  With my long gaming sessions, the AD700's never bothered me at all.  I can already tell you the DT770's wouldn't make it more than an hour for me.  This really bums me out because the next set I wanted to try was the 880's, but I'm afraid they will feel exactly the same.

I think I lean towards open headphones, but am still willing to try closed.  You guys have any recommendations in either category that will match or be close to the ad700's in comfort level?

My initial thoughts were ad900's, but forums here seem to say they are not much of an upgrade.  the ad2000's are out of my price range yet.  I thought maybe the Denon 2000's may have a nicer headband, but I can only look at pictures.

Please help!  I do not want the AD700's to be the end of my new adventure already!

What bothers you about the headband?

Really? The 770 is the most comfortable headphone I've used.

even with the earpads extended out as far as they can go, the headband has too much force coming down on the top of my head.  odd i know.  i keep taking them off and inspecting the leather, expecting it to be much harder.  by hand, they seem like the band should be fine, but after 15min, they bother me.

Maybe go to a guitar center and see if the ath-m50 feels comfortable to you?  I have them and they feel fine for hours after switching to srh840 earpads.  Others have complained about the clamping force, but apparently my head isn't very wide because I have no issues with it.  If you're interested in trying the denon sound the creative aurvana lives are ~65 shipped on newegg and are supposedly the same as the denon d1001s.

The D2000s have a very comfortable headband, and comfort is a huge issue for me.  They are on the heavier side, but the weight is very well distributed.  Very comfortable for me.

Heh, sell the AD700 and buy the AD900 and pick up a pair of HD650s.  That's my combo and thinking of getting either the M50, A900 or SRH840 for my closed.

Are you planning on buying an Amp?  If not, the AD900 is a great headphone, if you are, then you have more choices like the DT880, HD650 etc.  I find the AKG K601 very tempting, or if you can find a K501.

I have the astro mixamp and that's all I want to have to purchase.  I actually thought about the AD900 but people around here say it's not much of an upgrade from the AD700's. Want the AD2000, but it's out of my budget.

I'm happy to say my new dt880's are comfortable as hell.  i actually like the feel better than the ad700's.  WINNER!

I would also like to add that my astro mixamp powers them just fine. i would not try anything more difficult than the 250ohm, but it does work, with room to spare. the volume dial is just past twelve o clock and i can push them to intolerable noise levels.
