I think movies are in PCM 48, don't they?
As far as toslink goes, it could be a multi-channel format. These are the possibilities. Only pcm 2.0 is supported.

TOSLINK/Optical Digital Audio supports the following audio formats.
PCM 2.0.
Dolby Digital 2.0 to 5.1.
Dolby Digital EX 6.1.
DTS Digital Surround.
DTS-ES Matrix 6.1.
DTS-ES Discrete 6.1.
DTS 96/24 (96kHz/24bit audio)

I'm thinking of upgrading my DI-20 (non-HE) to the HE version in the coming weeks/months. I would have to pay in around $1k after the sale of my DI-20 (with the shipping and customs for the new DI-20HE accounted for).

My question: would this be a significant upgrade or just a nice little upgrade? Considering the pay-in, it would not be worthwhile for me if it's not going to be a significant upgrade in SQ.

My current rig: sOTM sMS-200 streamer -> DI-20 (non-HE) -> R7HE (2019 version with 2021 I2S upgrade) -> amp

Edit: The other option I have at my disposal, would be to sell my R7HE and DI-20 (non-HE) and replace them with a R7HE MK2 (but I would not have enough budget to get a DI-20HE at this stage). Which, if any, of the above, would be the advised upgrade approach?
I know the reply is little bit late for you, but it might help someone who interested upgrade their system to HE version. Audio-gd do have a separate product called HE-350, it is a regenerative power supply.

It is an old page. Not produced anymore. But if a group was formed, Kingwa could possibly produce a batch.

On another line of thought, i got the he7 mkii almost 4 weeks ago. I had been lurking that way for quite a while.

I find it has a more laid back sound. It is less sharp (macro dynamics not as strong) and is a bit colored compared to the r7he mkii. For old records records, it performs better. And is a little inferior with recent records. Also, i find it has a more meaty sound, and that it is even more analog. And it also stages better. Overall, you can say it has more of a vintage/tubby sound.

I think that since my speakers have a forward treble, the he7 mkii is just a better fit. I also like the big meaty/round bass that the he7 mkii delivers.

As consequence, my r7he mkii will be up for sale. I can't keep both dacs, no room. Otherwise, i probably would.

@PLGA Have you tried selecting another input for one second and then switching back to optical? How long is your Toslink cable? Is the TV set to incompatible mode like multichannel surround?

I never use optical but think I had a similar switching issue with I2S and the older PLL firmware.

…glad you solved the issue…

Lovely setup.

One thing that puzzles me on that picture is the different font types.

But I like what is portrait, nonetheless. :ok_hand:
