Something that will bring out the best of the upgraded silver i2s option I purchased for my r8mk2.

No worry, just trying to answer your original question to find something that works. I have both cables(AVPlay & BJC) Agreed that the silver I2S does sound better.

Were you able to get DSD upsampling to work with the avplay cable?

IMHO, That AV play is really good for the price..
I would say: AV Play < Audiolund I2S cables < Tubulus

If I try to use DSD upsampling, Jriver freezes and I get a high pitched squeal through my headphones and I have to turn off the di20 and reboot pc to stop it.

No idea if it will solve your Jriver DSD issue, but for what it is worth over in the U18 thread there's some real love for the Tubulus Argentus including from a long time BJC FE user with quite resolving gear. That's likely where I'd go if/when I want to step up from the BJC FE I'm currently using.

Just to complete my thoughts on the Tubulus Argentus silver I2S cable, I have now put 200 hours of burn-in on my 0.5m link between U18 and X26 Pro and the cable is outstanding.

The cavernous soundstage is larger, deeper and more palpable than I can remember. There is no brightness or glare in the sound, but there is hoardes of natural filigree detail. Bass remains stonking - both deep and tight with tremendous impact. The overall sound is vivid and exciting, with a fantastic liquid midrange that communicates voice so well.

Sorry to say to those of us who used the Blue Jeans FE to such good effect, this Tubulus is on another plane of performance. It's worth the cost.

I don't have any issues with any of my I2S cables, once the Di20He was over approx 600 hrs. I use RPi and PC(foobar2000) as source

Yeah it seems to work fine with some dacs but in particular, it does not work with audio-gd di20 to r8mk2 or gustard.

So it works with DSD512? Which dac are you using?

I am very new to using i2s in music. Is the cable you are using modified?

As the thread is on a cables topic....... I would like to connect the i2s HDMI output on my DI20HE to the HDMI input on my R72020HE. The previous owner of the R7 had the 2021 HDMI module fitted to the R7 2020 by a local technician. Kingwa sent him the 2021 module for the technician to fit.

The whole pin business with i2s cables fries my mind. Does this mean that the HDMI pin layout on my R7's HDMI input is the one shown below?

If so, can I use a standard HDMI cable, like the Gustard one here?: https://www.linsoul.com/products/gustard-i2s?variant=43624624488665

And lastly do I then select the following on the DI20HE?:

HDMI output mode 1: The 3rd display element indicates "n" (Non swap) and the 4th indicates "1" (In the setting menu) : i2s out follows the Audio-gd i2s definition.

look for the hdmi layout of the R7 and match one of the modes with it.

About PCM I noticed if I dont use ASIO my RME dac wont play it and use 44.1khz.

So what are you guys using for the DI20HE…ASIO?

A HDMI works. You may need to find the mode which does not switch the channels. Just find a video HDMI to test it out

So I got the transparent audio hdmi cable and tested it out and dsd still wasn't working.

So I decided to give a hail mary and uninstall all the amanero drivers and reinstall (should have done this first . Then when I opened up jriver to select the audio output, a new option popped up that was not available to me before. The combo384 asio 1.03 driver.

I was previously trying to use the wasapi driver and it wasn't working.

After selecting the asio output, it works fine now at DSD512. Sounds amazing.

So afterall it is a configuration issue and the AVPLAY cable is fine from di20he > r8mk2.

Edit : it may help if you reinstall the drivers with the i2s cable connected for about 30 seconds first, the driver may not install correctly if the output device is not recognized as present by windows.

I have just finished reading all of the 633 pages of this thread

In the half way of reading I bought the Audio-GD R-27 2021 and just recieved it! Coming from Topping D90 MQA feelings couldn´t be higher! Now the burning in starts...

My first and immediate finding out of the box was the soundstage and depth of it, really nice! Sounds still a bit harsh but that is going to change of course during the next 500 - 1000 hours.

I have tested the USB input with my budget streamer iFi Zen Stream and now I plugged in my Denafrips Iris DDC and using the I²S.

Can I gain something by buying the DI-20HE compared to go with the Iris?

I use the R-27 2021 also with my Acoustic Energy AE1 powered speakers with XLR and I can say the audio quality jumped instantly, before the R-27 I used Topping A90 as a pre.

This is great thread and wery professional and knowing people in it; I would like to say thank you all. You also cost me almost 1900 euros...
