I keep hearing from the box "Open me Open me"

 LOL

"Open me" I have.

I'm sorry if this is against the rules..........'Holy Crap!'  I am on the 4th 10th song. From Led Zep to Neil Sedaka to The Phantom of the Opera.......... OUTSTANDING. All of my expectations have been crushed. I now understand all that you have been saying. I'm hearing different notes, nuances, whole instruments I've never knew where there. The detail is fantastic, almost unbelievable!

From the specifics on the LCD3's SQ to the diff between IEMs and full size HPs. All has clicked into place and I get it now. Very happy here in sound Paradise.

I do have a question. What is the ideal in theory for gain on my AMP/DAC, it has two positions low and high. Besides my ears, what are the guidelines?

Use of this term in reference to the LCD3 has an honorable lineage, having first been uttered by purrin early this year. I am sure it will be added to head-fi's official glossary of audiophile terms shortly.

Unfortunately this was during Audez'e's initial quality problems, and one of purrin's drivers failed after a few days. The exact audiophile term purrin used on this occasion is not recorded.

All I can say is if the LCD3 I have fails.......even though I'm on an Island thousands of miles away.......you won't need to read my response you'll be able to hear it.

My bank account and I know exactly of which you speak.

Tried swapping R and L on the headphone cable to make sure it is not the headphone cable that has a breakage?

Thanks ardilla.. yep tried that... but because its so intermittent there is no real theme here. Was showing a friend who was blown away by the sound and it happens to him as well when you dip your head forward. Either way they are going back...  I can unequivocally say though that pairing them with the RX3B and CLAS-dB (Single Ended so far) is audio porn to my ears.

Not that this adds to the discussion, but over 2-3 decades of playing with what seems like countless phones from all the major and minor manufacturers, I've never had a physical defect of any kind. Not even a loose connection.
I've had a number of problems with speakers though over the same time span.
I only wish cars were even half as good as headphones.
[For this thread, over 4 pairs so far of Audezes, now LCD3s, no problems at all.]

Just got my LCD-3's about a week ago. Completely blown away by these things! They are being powered by a Schiit Lyr, and I am waiting on a Schiit Bifrost DAC to come in. Can't wait to hear the audio difference the DAC brings.

So much to read...

I have a bit of a concern about buying the LCD-3's.
Lots of stores have them in stock where I live, and sure enough I will be auditioning set soon :)

I am worried about getting old stock, as there seems to be a lot of issues with the early LCD-3's.
Is there any way I can tell a newer LCD-3? Serial numbers, some sort of magic marking ?

Also note that Audeze's online store seems not to have a shipping Option to where I live as well.

Thanks

I've got an old stock LCD-3 and it sounds better than the new stock

 ( I did an a/b lately )

Audeze have got a 3 year warranty. If the diaphragm hasn't gone bad in three years it probalby never will.

I can test anything before I buy it so the chance of me getting a DOA unit are slim.
Where there any other major issues ?

Sounds better is very subjective :) Given I have not even heard  any LCD-3 yet... I need to fix that  !

Thanks

Subjective?? Not in this case :p  Better separation, more air and generally the same otherwise. Slight differences, but I wouldn't swap mine for the newer model I heard. It might not have gotten its burn-in - but still. All this fuzz about the "early" vs "late" models is generally very annoying. LCD-3 is great. There are other great phones as well. Choose between different cans, don't spend your time nitch-picking about serial numbers and production dates.

I had no issues with mine at all
