Neumann NDH 30

I hate this lockable plug with a passion, I still don’t know how I got it locked in when I got the box but hey, if it works, it works… :)

I think a regular 3.5mm plug a la Focal Clear would’ve been nicer, I never had an issue with those. Might be a good suggestion for the black edition if it will ever come.

My issue with the cable isn't the locking connector, but the absurd length of the thing.

My Hart cable should arrive today. I'll post a pic and my impressions when it shows up (Spoiler: It's going to sound exactly the same as the stock cable, I was more referring to the quality of the connectors, how it plugs into the cup, and general liveability of the thing)

Go to an ear specialist(otolaryngologist), he or she will know how to clean the canal much better than any product.
Debrox works much better than Q-tips, and seeing a member of the guild is expensive and difficult to arrange via HMO.

I'm beginning to think that this headphone was made just for me! :) I actually like the locking mechanism. I’ve managed to give the cable a slight tug two or three times now (when picking up the headphones) and it just stayed put, which is better than having it fly out, in my opinion. I also appreciate the quality and feel of the cable (and the plugs) and the fact that it is as long as it is. That gives great flexibility when using, either for playing an instrument, as I do with the NDH 20, or to be able to sit in a comfortable listening chair, as opposed to at a desktop.

Could be worse, could be like the 660S cable... :D
Or even worse, the S2 cable! I understand that many people like shorter cables, but for me the shorter cable is another reason not to get the latest flavour in the six series. Shorter cable, no box, twice the price....... Hmmm. I'm sure it's a fine headphone though.

I use Hart cables on everything now, and have for the last few years. The length is great for me, and the interconnect system is the best, IMHO.

We have a new kitten in the house... that's my major complaint about the 10-footer. Even when I under/over it and attempt to keep it on my desk, lil' Pico has a knack for finding it and then it becomes a cat toy. At least for the next year I think the shorter the cable the better! I draw the line at BT headphones, tho

How is the locking a problem? Does it not work? In my pair it is straightforward. Inserting, playing a little clockwise/anticlockwise to find the cuts and insert it fully, and then turn clockwise to lock. I find it very effective and secure.

New Hart cable is fantastic. I tried to match the interior of the cups, that orangy yellow color, with the cable color. I didn't really succeed, but it still looks pretty nice. Length is much more to my liking for desktop use. Locking connector is nice and secure, and not loose or janky feeling.

I can't help but spend my time with the NDH30 dissecting each mix and focusing on minutia in the production of each track (for better or for worse). I'd say that more than any other headphone I've heard in recent memory, these babies lay bare any poor decisions in the mix and surface inconsistencies in the recording. Obviously this includes relative levels of instruments/voices, but also levels of compression, oddly EQ'ed instruments, too much reverb, overall coherency and stereo imaging of the track, etc. etc.. But, when a track hits just right... it's effing sublime!!

A lot of iffy mixes and masters have absolutely nowhere to hide from the Neumann. It's pretty cool how accurate and unapologetic this thing is. And the fact that this headphone manages to sound fun and musical at the same time is truly a feat. I really think this can could be a "one and done" for most people (myself included??). It's a headphone that leaves you asking, "what more do you need?" And sorry to the fans of the 660S2 (which I also like a ton!!) but the NDH30 leaves it far behind in terms of technicalities IMO. The S2 is a little better for relaxed, non-critical listening, but the NDH30 will reveal a lot more of the character of the recording. It's just so exacting and articulate.

Great that you’re happy with the cable! And nice to see your kit. I think for me it’s a case of ‘two and through’ instead of ‘one and done’! I’m doing a show in another city at the moment, so that means living half the time away from home for at least the next couple of months. That was really all the excuse I needed to get another one so I don’t have to carry an NDH 30 from one place to the other every week. 😉

I've been using the S2 the last couple of days and it's been nice, with some exception using the DT900 ProX which is also very good imo and super easy to drive, but listening to NDH-30 again right now and it's damned sublime using SMSL D-6/SH-6 with Tidal HiFi ...

HD560S gets a mention as it's by far the lightest can in this family of cans, it disappears on the head and is because of that very usable, pretty good SQ about 80% of S2 and I would say it's the spiritual successor of HD414 because of it's all plastic construction and being Sennheisers highest end all plastic open back.

This things are not compatible at all ... Eventually I just sliced a chunk in the middle and applied from inside the soft rubbery part of the band through the fit.

Super comfy now though... :p
