Not sure of your equipment. Do you/have you used your 600 with a OTL tube amp?
Yes, I generally run my dynamic drivers off an EarMax Pro (https://brocksieper.com/#products). It was given to me by a friend about a year ago, and I absolutely love the way it pairs with the Senns and ZMF I currently have in the stable. I feed it with the Ragnarok 2 as a pre. Right now the DAC is a Topping D70, but I also have a Bifrost 2 I can swap out.

Listening to Jan Garbarek’s Visible World ECM album on the NDH 30 right now. It’s hard to add to the many excellent descriptions of the sound which have already been given, but if that sort of music and recording is what you’re into it would be hard to think of a better headphone. All of the different elements in the recording of the music so accurately presented that you find yourself on a mental journey in and through the soundscape, exploring all of the different aural queues and picturing the instruments and sound all around you as you get lost in the ambience of the recording, whilst the headphones themselves disappear. Others may have experienced the same with other headphones, but for me the NDH 30 is on another level in their ability to present the recording so accurately, but at the same time allowing you to become totally immersed in the musical experience. Never quite had that from my HD650, HD660S or HD800. The 650 and 660S give the musical connection and the 800 the accuracy (apart from the treble spike), but the NDH 30 give you everything. Oh, and they’re superbly comfortable and extremely well made. Apart from that they’re rubbish…….. 😉
I liked this unusual album.
1975. Ralph Towner - Solstice [2017) [24-192]

Ralph Towner – 12-string and classical guitar, piano
Jan Garbarek – tenor and soprano saxophone, flute
Eberhard Weber – bass, cello
Jon Christensen – drums, percussion

Hello,

I have hd6xx and k702 with morphit.
I like the stereo and stage of k702. Hd6xx laid back sound is ok but you miss a lot of things for chamber or classical music to me, or even for the harmonics in modern jazz from ECM label.
K702 has a great image and good clarity and transient but of course it is short in the lows...
Could the ndh30 be a good upgrade?
Which pads are to be bought?
IMO the ndh 30 is a worthwhile upgrade to those headphones. It will combine the clarity and soundstage of the 702 with the warmer tonality of the 6xx. The stage won't be quite as big as the 702 but it's noticeably bigger than the 6xx. And it's more dynamic sounding and resolving than either of those headphones. If you do get it, don't forget the cable plugs in on the right side, not the left like 99% of other headphones haha. As for pads I wouldn't mess with aftermarket pads unless you get it and find something lacking. Then you can research pad options. I'm not sure you'll find a lot of options though as this is more of an under the radar headphone so the aftermarket support isn't as big as with sennheiser, etc. I personally love the stock pads, they're soft, comfy, and plenty big for my ears.

Mike F was very accurate describing the NDH 30. It is a headphone that "landed" at € 630 but clearly belongs to a much higher class, sonically and mechanically.
Why do you ask about the pads? Have you heard/read anything negative? They are perfectly comfortable to me and after almost 6 months of heavy use I can say that they show no signs of deterioration at all (velour or internal foam); they are of high quality and I wouldn't really trust anything else if it appeared. At the moment I think that no third party makes pads especially for Neumann's headphones because they are not of any standard size (they are a little larger at their fitting opening than many Beyerdynamics), but I could be wrong. Also, the fine frequency balance of this headphone is achieved with these pads thus it is more likely to unbalance it with other pads than to improve it.
You don't have to worry at all about pads or cable quality with this headphone.
Ed. It is impressive that the earpads still have a smell of new and unused materials after six months! They are clearly made of carefully selected materials.

Interesting amp... nice friend! I'm blessed with a Gumby A1 to go with my BHCs w/ many upgrades (E80CC, Clarity CSA, Mundorfs). So I'd probably be on the Bifrost 2.

Anybody else excited about the release of the new MDR-MV1 from Sony?

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1761529-REG/sony_mdr_mv1_open_back_reference_monitor.html/?ap=y&smp=y&smpm=ba_f2_lar&lsft=BI:514&gclid=CjwKCAjwrdmhBhBBEiwA4Hx5g83uYgnG1F8RgSQFLcn6bij-dXSnA2izC__pzqoXCcxs8Ivqw_xbvBoC_SMQAvD_BwE

I mention it because I assume it will be a direct competitor to the NDH30. It's meant to be a tonally-neutral studio monitor, it's open-back, and in roughly the same price bracket (lower price, actually). Could be interesting. Can't wait to see some reviews for this one.
This interesting newcomer from Sony already has a dedicated thread!

I will be watching it for first impressions and reviews by users. I find that this headphone has an irresistible design at least!

One of the few reviews mention a terrible stock pad. Maybe he has a partnership with a guy making pads...

Concerning the sound, they do have more extension and crisp than hdhxx/hd650 right?
I have faital compression drivers at home and love them...

Anyone tried the heddphone? They are great but I think they are no longer headphones, you need to be installed to listen to them, it is more a mix of monitors and headphones at the same time.
