At 30 degrees, I have what I like in terms of balance between the two.

Haa yeah same here I'm in bliss with my Volot just happened across it reading in one of the k1000 threads and was curious, but as you say sounds outdated anywayMaybe a Smyth Realiser would be the better choice for immersive / 3D audio, if you’re after that.
BAP1000 is really outdated, there’s no more way to get your own HRTF in, and the most important part for a convincing 3D-effect, head-tracking, isn’t even offered.
As a pure headphones amp it probably can drive Mysphere 3.2, but a Schiit Magni e.g. can do this much cheaper.
For me Mysphere’s own stage presentation is enough “immersion” anyway.

Tip:
If you want to play around with the AKG’s ambisonic experience, get the AKG Hearo 999 Audiosphere amp.
Originally, it’s a combination of an Ambisonic processor with digital and analog inputs, a multitude of HRTF settings (my guess is they took some from the BAP1000 because they already had them), and a wireless headphones (not too bad one).
The amp has wired headphone output too, that is strong enough to drive the AKG K1000.
There are 6 “Ears” what the call it, multiplied with 12 sound variations each, and the option for some extra reverb.
Can handle Dolby Digital 5.1 on it’s optical input.
On the back, there is a line output for the processed signal, where you can connect a strong headphone amp if you like.
This thing goes cheap these days, some 50 bucks or so,- was about 1000 then.
Watch out that the PSU is included.

The shouty-ness origins from a strong 2 kHz range which is physically inherent to all open-baffle headphones of this size.I'm experiencing some shoutiness in vocals especially female, I hope it's this aftermarket panel which came with these when I bought them, I hope that's it because I'm ordering a stock cable lol. Also I don't think it's a amp mismatch as it's paired with a Burson Soloist 3xp and a Volot and on alot of tracks sound glorious but man gets painful on others.. not exactly simbilant rather shouty for lack of a better word
EQ for MYSPHERE 3
My first proposed EQ can be found here:
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/mys...und-design-build-quality.819658/post-16796657
Now it’s time for an updated EQ setting that:
• allows for louder listening,
• has fine-tweaked midrange,
• and features a controlled, punchy bass extension, following Harman down to 50 Hz.
The EQ uses a 51 Hz Hi-Pass (Low Cut) filter with higher Q.
This Q of 1.5 boosts some bass and the cut limits subsonics in favour of a better controlled bass and higher possibly sound level.
The Treble-Shelf-Band is not used (Gain = 0 dB), but frequency and Q are pre-set to adjust treble to taste.
EQ for Mysphere 3 w. B-Pad Band Gain dB F Hz Q Shape B/Bass +6.0 110 0.7 B-shelf adjust to taste 1 n.a. 51 1.5 HP-Filter 2 -10.0 2.2k 2.0 Peak 3 +5.0 2.6k 2.7 Peak 4 -3.5 4.9k 2.9 Peak 5 +7.5 4.2k 1.0 Hi-shelf T/Treble 0.0 4.2k 0.8 Hi-shelf adjust to taste
This is the resulting EQ curve on my RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE:

Man when you get these dialed in and muscle memory gets set these are absolutely stunning headphones. If everyone could hear them dialed in I think they'd be much more popular. But man you really have to learn them and take your time almost a precision instrument that reaches elite status when properly aligned and with the right amp/dac etc
