I don't think so, otherwise then we have major design problem here. True that a 5U4G draws more current than a 5ar4 at power on, but not only that's the tube that I have been using with the mk2 version of that pre-amp for 4 years, but the 5U4G is included in the list of supported tubes by this design. Better yet, the 6Z5p, the default that comes with this unit is even more taxing on the power supply than any of the mentioned rectifiers.
The reason I prefer the 5U4G is because I find it to be smoother sounding than the 5Ar4.

Well, the dealer Garry, is up there in Canada with you, so he should hand deliver a new one to you.
You do know Canada is the second largest country in the world, in fact I am closer to Florida than British Columbia where Garry is located. If I knew he would ship from China I would have not placed the order.

The caps came today and I installed them. What a difference, clean airy highs, sweet midrange, solid bass. No more sloppy bass, everything got more detailed.
Can't wait for the burn in.

Wait until you try the Mundorf Supreme silver Gold oil Classic, or the Mundorf Supreme Evo silver Gold oil.
In the meantime, I haven't heard from Garry yet. I sent him an email again this morning, still no reply.

The Supremes are big. Would a couple small bypass make a difference, I have some small Supreme silver oils.

Is there a number for Garry you could call.
Absolutely, a bypass of at least 1% of the the actual caps will make a difference, the higher the bypass percentage with respect to that caps the more noticeable it will be. I always do that in speaker crossovers; I always bypass the mid-range and tweeter caps with higher grade caps or teflon caps.

As for Garry, I know he is a busy guy, so he usually takes approx. 3 days to answer my emails.

Never mind, that R4 wasn't populated in previous version either.

Uh! the unit is fine, the spike that I saw when I first powered on the unit had blown the fuse. I replaced the fuse with a better quality fuse and I am enjoying my unit now.

Garry, as always was very supportive, he stood with me and guided me into resolving this issue, which is why I love MP's products.

For now, I am trying the Jantzen Superior Silver zcaps, with the two front tubes being Gold Lion 6922, and the back tube as Voshkod 6H23n, rectifier: Russian Svetlana 5C3S (==5u4G) black plate; pure bliss.

I thought of that , but felt for sure you had checked that. Anyway, good to hear it's fine.
Which one was blown, the one on the pcb, or the main.
