The 5u4g probably surged the cap on turn on. That's why a 5ar4 is safer to use. It has a slow heat up, less surge.

You do know Canada is the second largest country in the world, in fact I am closer to Florida than British Columbia where Garry is located. If I knew he would ship from China I would have not placed the order.Well, the dealer Garry, is up there in Canada with you, so he should hand deliver a new one to you.
Wait until you try the Mundorf Supreme silver Gold oil Classic, or the Mundorf Supreme Evo silver Gold oil.The caps came today and I installed them. What a difference, clean airy highs, sweet midrange, solid bass. No more sloppy bass, everything got more detailed.
Can't wait for the burn in.
Absolutely, a bypass of at least 1% of the the actual caps will make a difference, the higher the bypass percentage with respect to that caps the more noticeable it will be. I always do that in speaker crossovers; I always bypass the mid-range and tweeter caps with higher grade caps or teflon caps. The Supremes are big. Would a couple small bypass make a difference, I have some small Supreme silver oils.
Is there a number for Garry you could call.
I thought of that , but felt for sure you had checked that. Anyway, good to hear it's fine.Uh! the unit is fine, the spike that I saw when I first powered on the unit had blown the fuse. I replaced the fuse with a better quality fuse and I am enjoying my unit now.
