Man, I'm super excited about trying the Voce once The AV Source has a demo unit!

Thanks for the enthusiasm. AV Source is a company that sells $19 IEMs and such. The Source AV is one of the 2 dealers that start the launch with MrSpeakers. Bad news we don’t actually have the demo unit yet. I’ll let @TSAVAlan know when they will arrive abdbhave him let you guys know.

Ugly, looks like something from an old 60's Star Trek!

They said this regarding that digital image: "(This is a render, obviously. We'll have a photo as soon as possible..)"

This is a bit closer to what it actually looks like:

Regarding the question about the driver "stack," here's our configuration:

1) outer metal grill
2) protective super-fine screen
3) outer metal stator
4) diaphragm
5) inner metal stator
6) mylar shield with a protective super-fine screen (I guess this was what was meant by "impermeable", we use the mylar to mitigate humidity on the stator on the ear-side as the metal will be colder than body temp and in humid environments this could cause condensation on the stator, which isn't a potential issue on the outside)
7) Optional filters which can be used for tuning. The headphone will include two filters for three different tunings (they can be above or under the ear pad)
8) Cloth dust screen integrated to the ear pad

We hadn't considered "sealing" the driver to be permanently dust free but this is physically simple to do. If there is no effect on the sonics we will add this.

I’ve heard them, they are great and likely they’ll upset the STAX Army Boys when they start getting impressions. Unfortunately that isn’t going to happen soon. You’ll need to be patient enough to wait for the release.

Thank you for being so informative.

I recall stax engineers saying that having a clean room was a costly entry barrier for new players.

So I was surprised to see there was no dust film shield and that a super fine screen was enough.

On the other hand, experienced diy’rs say that insulated stators avoid problems with dust:

Over at the other thread, people are discussing about the new electrostatic headphones that don't have any dust cover. I would say that it's not a very good idea. I learned that since the very first day I made my headphones. Without the dust cover, you run the risk of not only having the dust in the drivers, but also the risk of having the sweat in there. I would recommend that you insulate the stators well and at least put a dust cover on the side facing your ear. If you have good insulated stators, the dust cover on the other side is not really necessary.

If this is not some kind of know-how secret, would you mind to describe, in your opinion, the advantage of insulated stators without outer dust covers over uninsulated stators with dust covers? What would be the shield thickness? Do you think the shield thickness and material can somehow have any effect on the sonics?
