Most Natural Sounding 701/2 or the 650?

The K701/K702 throws out an ENORMOUSLY unrealistic soundstage, and you know that when even a tenor sax has no weight to it, there's a problem.

To me, the HD600/HD650 is definitely more "natural sounding." It's relaxed (notice how I didn't compare it to anything), but has an incredible quality of body to the music, and that is what you'll love the most when all is said and done.

Even though I voted that the K701 has a more natural sound - I agree that at times the soundstage is inappropriate for the music and other headphones can be more natural. To my ears the Sennheiser sound is an "audiophile" type sound that can be quite enjoyable but isn't natural either.

It really depends on the recording.

I don't understand HD650's presence in this poll at all. The K701 is something about neutral, the HD650's are colored in the whole frequency range. If this poll was the HD600 against the K701, it could make more sense for some people because for me the most natural sounding headphone I know is the GS1000 at the moment.

I owned both for many months, and preferred the HD650 - the k701 had an unnatural treble to my ears. Soundstage schmoundstage.

See...there are 2 things which are not natural.

too colored sound

or

too uncolored.

and imo K701 is kinda colored due to the bass impact was below normal.. i enjoyed the highs on it though and soundstage was like a hall.

whereas on HD650..i couldnt enjoy the Highs..no sparkle at all.

hmm..finally i bought HD600..which sounded natural across the spectrum to me

hence i would go for my HD600 anyday over K701 or HD650..unless i got some really awesome amp

The 650 is much more natural sounding than the GS1000 and I dont particularly like the 650. The GS1000 sounds even muddier than the 650 and then adds a horribly peaky treble. The only headphones I know of more colored than the GS1000 are some of the Ultrasones.

I like the 600 > than the 650. But, I still would take either Senns over the 701 long term. I seem to be able to listen around the 650s flaws easier than I can the 701s flaws. I really like the 701 but for a lot of the music I listen to most the 701 lacks bass quantity and dynamics and can sound a little to bright in the upper mid/ lower treble region.

IME, they are both colored phones. K701 at times sound too forward and HD650 at times sound too relaxed. If I have choose one, I'd rather choose HD600 because of it's middle ground between the two.

I would say the Sennheisers are much more natural than the AKGs. Yes, they are not as neutral and detailed. The sound stage is also not as big as the AKGs IMO, but when I listen to the senns, they just sound 'right' to me.

For Senns and AKG? I'd put it more like this:

1. K-501
2. HD-600
3. HD-650
4. K-701/2

The K-701 is capable of good performance, but it's never sounded natural to me. There's always a hint of the artificial. The HD-650 is more natural top to bottom, but with a dark tint. The HD-600 is very close to the real thing, but the K-501 really gets it right.

Though I still prefer my studio phones (K-1000, K-240DF, DT48, and HP-2) to all of those. All of those sound "right."

I'm really astonished how one can perceive the sound of the GS-1000 as natural. To my ears it has a terrible, ear-hurting treble spike and a slightly annoying mid-bass resonance followed by a relatively early bass drop-off. That said, of course I understand and accept that everybody has different ears.

I voted for the K 701 -- which comes closest to natural/neutral among the dynamic headphones I own -- and have heard (save for the K 1000 and maybe the K 501, which I have owned some time ago). I don't find its soundstage to be artificially enhanced at all.

The HD 600 sounds passably neutral, too, but lacks extension to both extremes as well as refinement and resolution compared to the HD 650 (IMO).
