Phil Collins and Genesis are two different animals. IMHO there's nothing at all to be embarrassed about owning his early solo works such as "Face Value" and "Hello, I Must Be Going!" After that he kind of got a little Lionel Ritchie-ish. Everything was a sappy love song.

In the same vain, you can't compare Lionel Ritchie's solo works to "The Commodores". They were a funk band, and a good funk band, until Lionel took them down the 'love song' road. Sure those songs made them a lot of money, but at what price?
