johnny cash "long black veil"

Ten years ago, on a cold dark night
Someone was killed, 'neath the town hall light
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed
That the slayer who ran, looked a lot like me

The judge said son, what is your alibi
If you were somewhere else, then you won't have to die
I spoke not a word, thou it meant my life
For I'd been in the arms of my best friend's wife

Chorus
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave when the night winds wail
Nobody knows, nobody sees
Nobody knows but me

Oh, the scaffold is high and eternity's near
She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear
But late at night, when the north wind blows
In a long black veil, she cries ov're my bones

of course it helps to hear it in cash's mournful voice.

Wumpscut’s "Angel" from the album Embryodead. The album is a theme album about the journey of an aborted child. The first song is about the death of Christ (not a Christian band). I also saw a review of this album from Gothic-magazine that rated the whole album as the most depressing of all time. Wumpscut is an industrial/gothic band from Germany but the sing in English.

But it's so horribly overdone and melodramatic, it ends up being humorous.

Belle&Sebastian: I'm Waking Up To Us

If you´re not lucky in love, than this is really a very depressive song

ET, we share this one. And if I had to choose anything else, it would be Samuel Barbers Adagio For Strings.
