Yeah you can choose balanced 2.5mm, standard 3.5mm or 4mm balanced when you order them.. at least from Linsoul. Also you can pick either Chinese or English logo.

Just was an easy way to get that balanced Lyre cable. I can swap with KPEs standard 3.5mm.

Does anyone prefer the widest tips that come with the iems?
The soundstage becomes noticeably wider and the whole sound is very airy. I have been using these tips for a couple of days. I like them a lot.

The harman compensated graph looks wonky though.. especially after 15kHz.

Not exactly. If you've actually read the technical papers for Dr. Olive's research, you'll know that Harman limits their research to below 10 kHz. The Harman Target is wildly smoothed above 10k and is something they explicitely stress in every single one of their papers. For the Harman Target, the area of interest is 20 Hz to 10 kHz (In-Ears) or 50 Hz - 10 kHz (Over-ears). In fact, for their recent papers, Dr Olive has abandoned all attempts to study preferences above 10kHz. So for above 10kHz, you CANNOT take the Harman target and compare it to the KPE's response.

There are a couple of reasons for Harman choosing not to create a curve for above 10kHz. On one hand, the levels above 10 kHz are very hard to measure precisely and accurately, varying extremely with the measurement rig used and the position of the head/earphone (IEC 60318 compliant mic is only specified up to 8kHz). On the other hand due to variations between individual ear canals, at frequencies above 8-10 kHz it's not useful to even attempt to calculate an average over multiple persons due to resonance.

Even so, as Crin has said before, frequencies above 10kHz are not exactly unimportant. They do play a role in treble extension etc, something IEMs struggle with a lot. From the graphs, it seems KPE does quite well in this regard.

I need to read your views on Sony and Sony Vs KPE :)... You know you want to write about them :)

Im comparing the KPE vs the EX800ST (and the A8). So far the A8 eats both for breakfast in microdetail.. no big surprise. Sound stage though, KPE and EX800 are REAL good. Sony takes the bass cake, that 16mm dynamic is unreal. I can't give an overall opinion yet, too early.

hey redrol . when you say bass is unreal on ex800st . is that in terms of quantity and/or quality? sub bass or mid bass? what tips do you use?

Quantity and quality. I've never heard bass like it on any IEM, ever. It's got sub and mid bass right where they need to be, perfect, neither is hyped. I did the tape mod over the back port and then poked a pinhole in it. Before that mod bass is a little more reserved.

Im using Sony tips that came with the MH755 actually, just medium large silicon ones.

My current opinion of the EX800ST is they are never leaving me. Holy crap good! I had a bit of trouble with tips but found some that work well. The ear hooks suck, but that seems easy to fix. Also the cable sucks.

What type of connection do they have, mmcx 2 pin or something custom? Is there a balanced cable option for them?

It's a total custom Sony deal and the adapters are expensive as hell

Its a pain to find an upgrade. By all accounts the cable was one of the ways they cut a lot of money from the ex800 in comparison to the ex1000
I did find the following. should be here in a week or so...I'll let ya'll know if its any good ! :)
(was cheaper in the sale)

1.2m 8 Cores 5n OCC Cable For Sony MDR-EX1000 EX800 Headphone Upgrade Cable
(I chose the pure copper only version)

i wouldn't normally spend so much on a cable but...in the case of the ex800 I feel its worth it
