Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

As I pointed out in post #1791, it's likely the TidalForce Wave is a repackaged OEM version of the MonoPrice M560. The specs, included the terminology and order of specs, are almost identical. Too much a coincidence for these cans not to be related.

The frequency response is the only technical difference I see. The driver might be similar but implementation is going to be different. They may use different dampening materials which may result in a different sound signature.

True on the material. Or different pads. Or different foam. Or a different measuring system. In any event, it appears to be the same base model. Will be interesting to learn if there are any sonic differences. Also, will be interesting to see if other companies come out with variations. Given @cskippy  and @MrTie84 's modding, I would imagine we will see some value added resellers selling modded versions too soon.

Still, for what is essentially the same design, it's kind of a rip of that it's an extra 100. Plus, it appears to have less functionality without being able to be run closed like the M-560.

Amazon also has 29 of these in stock:

https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Monolith-M1060-Planar-Headphones/dp/B01N32N5DD/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1488256575&sr=8-2&keywords=monoprice+m1060&linkCode=sl1&tag=zeos-20&linkId=9cf12989f95657b2df7c76ea840c0e91

Looks like the first 500 were not entirely sold directly from Monoprice. They sold some volume to third party distributors .

"Ships from and sold by Beach Camera". If I remember right Beach Camera is the same as Buydig.

For $300, you're getting a great driver and decent overall construction. Modding is where I think these will really shine. $300 isn't petty cash, but in the world of 106mm planar drivers, it is really cheap. I'm far more likely to mod the heck out of these than my HEX V2 or TH-X00 Ebony. I also don't see much point in modding my cheaper dynamic driver headphones. There may be gains, but they'll still be a flawed headphone. Early mod attempts have proven to make substantial changes to the sound. As more people own these, more mods will be attempted.

I really need to read up on what materials do to sound, and will try different things, because I can. I feel the driver is extremely capable, and modding will be a ton of fun. Pad swap later tonight, then I'll try the paper towel piece. Can't wait to play!

Please report the changes with both the recommended mods (pads and towel).

Can you start with towel mod first? If that makes them better alone, it would be totally reversible which is pretty cool.

I was going to buy a M1060 but Amazon and BuyDig just raised their price to $350. They must have realized that they have the only stock for the next month. Freaking capitalism.

I can do that. Will be a few hours, but I'll post impressions tonight.
