Try a sweatband to increase the clamp. Holds the headphone on quite well and having the pads tight removes any hint of the hollowness. I actually had a little channel imbalance because the right cup was looser on my head than the left. The sweatband/headband fixed everything I had issue with. Also my listening level on my amp dropped from 1 o'clock to 11 0'clock once the pads were tight.

These ear pads would fix M1070 hollow sound, better fit, It's also cheap. I will take some pictures when I'm home, look pretty nice

Cannot believe that there is so little talk about this headphone. Great bass with superb mid's and a smooth, very well resolved treble that is the slightest bit reticent. Wonderful for long listening sessions. I would take these over Senn 6xx in a heart beat. I prefer the 58x to the 6xx and these trounce the 58x. I still like the M1060 and my pad modded, cardas cable, Alessandro MS-2 .... but these are clearly better. Paid $229 on sale. $299 on sale is a steal.

Yeah, Monoprice's offerings are a bit of a dark horse on the forums, and I try to advocate for them on r/HeadphoneAdvice when they are on sale. I am quite pleased with the M1070, but I felt there was something lacking, so I got the M1570 a few months later when they dropped to $399. They are an improvement to the M1070 in sound quality, especially with imaging and soundfield. They have very realistic-sounding vocals, as if they are in the room with you, and yeah, spank the heck out of my HD-580 Precisions. :) (I consider the HD-6xx series to be sandtraps in the landscape of headphone audio. People just get stuck on them.)

Comparing them to their LCD counterparts, I find the M1070 similar to the LCD-2, dark and smooth sounding, and a bit L/R biased soundstage. The M1570 is more rounded soundstage, good front/rear depth, and images extremely well. It's also not as dark, and put it more towards the LCD-3 than X.

M1070 is my first planar hp, I would say it was a good start. An upgrade from my old Dt880

The new pads arrived, and slapped them onto the M1070. After comparing them to the audio signature of the lambskins vs these, I didn't care for the new pads that much at all. Plus that "velour" is the fuzziest velour I've ever seen. I suspect it's something else. Plus they're warmer against my head than the lambskins. So no, not happy with these.

This all led me to do some serious listening to the M1070 vs the M1570, and using the same EQ profile on both. The EQ fixes the tunnel effect on the M1070, and they sound pretty good, with the nod to the M1570. However, if you can nab these on sale at the recent prices of $219, $229, $239, these are a great, affordable option, and no need to play with custom cables if you go balanced.

EQ Profile:

Code:
Filter: ON LSC Fc 115 Hz Gain 7.5 dB Q 0.71
Filter: ON PK Fc 1100 Hz Gain -1.2 dB Q 2
Filter: ON HSC Fc 1300 Hz Gain 7 dB Q 0.71
Filter: ON PK Fc 3050 Hz Gain -1.8 dB Q 3
Filter: ON PK Fc 5000 Hz Gain -5.1 dB Q 4
Filter: ON PK Fc 8100 Hz Gain -4.6 dB Q 6
Filter: ON HSC Fc 10000 Hz Gain -3.8 dB Q 0.71
Preamp: -3.5 dB

How about turning off EQ?
I believe in EQ, especially after enjoying the improvements. No headphone is perfect. Anyone who says bad things about EQ, and how the gear should be listened to as is, doesn't know how to EQ. I learned how to read a FR chart, and how to retune a headphone from that, and what the regions in the FR do and adjust.
