The next time someone asks :

"How can I improve SQ.",
"How can I improve clarity"
"I find the treble lacking"
"I want more"
"headphones sound muffled"
"Mid range is recessed"
"Cheap upgrade wanted"
...etc etc
the first answer should be "try cleaning you ears first" :p

well, thanks for the advice, but these are not my first pair of headphones, just almost the best i ever had.
i just don't want to make them better, but louder because my small mp3player is to weak to supply them with enough power!
so i'm currently considering about an amp, you know?

and i just wanted to make them circumaural because i think there's to much noise coming through them. that's mostly because they're completely open, but i think this can be reduced by having some good circumaural pads and that's also why i'm asking here for advice

I would still recommend listening to them for a while before you make any further serious investments in equipment. I bought a pair of 'phones a while back that I thought I'd never be able to enjoy without a good amp. The volume level just seemed really inadequate. I don't know if they "losened up" or what but they sound fine now after listening to them for a couple of months.

Amps can be quite expensive and may not give you quite what you expect.

yay, dudes

i CLEAR my ears often enough

don't worry
and yes: european mp3players or rather german ones have a fixed max-volume...
i don't hear music that loud but at that volume my mp3player loses highs and lows (as said above -.-)
and of course im gonna listen to them a further while, but it's not bad to know what could be done if something lacks

b0ol, I think you should consider saving up to upgrade your player. MS-1 is easy to drive so, though it's quite tempting now to get an amp, better player with greater storage space - hence higher quality files - are more likely to benefit your sound quality.

I use my MS-1's recabled by me with my C-pads and Portiphile. Great combo.

I'm comparing my MS1 to my friends SR125 and notice some differences. Haven't compared them seriously yet since I'm studying for an exam.

I've compared them with the bowls on. The differences that I'm hearing are they the alessandro tweaks or are the SR125 more refined?

About the bowls, they make a huge difference. The MS1s sound choked with the comfys when you compare them

If you want to add a bit of openness and soundstage to your MS-1, look at my "MS-100" mod link in my sig line. Cheap, easy and effective.
