To be honest, a lot of "fakes" may be QC rejects from the same factory as the genuine article.  Which means they may sound very similar... for awhile.

It's gonna be tough to beat either of those deals really.  $55 Turbines and $99 Golds are pretty much the gold standard in terms of price/performance right now in my opinion, especially if you're a fan of the Monster brand.  I haven't heard the Golds, but they are essentially the upgrade to the regular Turbines as far as sound signature goes (bassy), so if it's worth twice the money to you, definitely get the Golds, but if you're on a strict budget, the Turbines at $55 are REALLY tough to beat.

I don't think it's a completely crazy idea to purchase headphones based on music genres. Mebbe the industry should get on board with that.
