I can vouch for his email working. I just sent and email to Phanom and he replied soon after. I am about to send my AK100 off to him now for an MS-AK upgrade with balanced out. I am very excited to get it back! I even decided not to take my DAP on vacation with me to get this back when I return. My post vacation you can say :)

Hi Phanom,

I've read in one of the posts that the MS-AK120 can drive high impedance headphones and the HD800 was even mentioned.  What is "enough" loudness can be subjective so can you provide the output voltage swing of the MS-AK120?

Thanks and regards

You can see the page 11 of wm8741 spec or ask crash88 since he just received his msak100 and he own hd800.

Resurrecting this old thread...
I received my ak120 back from Mezzo mod with Music Sanctuary. Finally a Wolfson implementation I like! I've only used it with my Pinnacle P1 but so far I'm very pleased with the sound. Easy going and musical without losing detail or sounding overly warm and murky like the stock AK120. My only complaint is that the volume knob is quite sensitive if bumped. A nice way to put some much needed life into an AK120 that's just gathering dust.

partial quote :

- They also give you a complimentary balanced output with no additional charge. Previously, they were using their own termination method of:

T : R-
R : R+
R : L-
S : L+

Now, they've swapped over to HiFiMan's more popular 4-pole TRRS balanced config.

T : L+
R : R+

I've decided to move my AK120 Mezzo mod on, if anyone is interested? Also my Ray Samuels balanced amp which is honest to god the best pairing as it is such a tiny little balanced amp :)

Only selling as I have too much gear and need to replenish some funds. Check my sig for details.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a new headphone for my MS-AK120.
I actually use an Sennheiser Amperior... But i think (now) this is not the best pairing...
Maybe the Amperior is not "high end enough" to listen to the best of thid DAP can offer.

I'm looking for a portable headphone i can go out with.

Someone suggests me to have a look to the Meze 99 Classic or the Oppo PM3.
What do you think of those headphones ?
Does the MS-AK120 have enough voltage to drive an Oppo PM3 ?

Thanks,
MagicGuy

Thx Shigzeo !

I change my question, because i was not explicit...

Does the MS-AK120 have enough voltage to drive correctly / optimally an Oppo PM3 ?
I mean, without amping.

Obviously on many DAP, Oppo PM3, when amped, delivers a best sounding than without...
And don't want to carry an amp with me...

Thanks again :)
